Title: Interesting question...
Post by: Overload on September 10, 2007, 06:01:06 AM
well, maybe not interesting but I've actually never seen this asked on here.

do you guys use sterile alcohol pads or cottons balls with rubbing alcohol?

I've always used the individual pads but my friend has been using cotton balls with rubbing alcohol for years.

is there a difference in how sterile the cotton balls could be? I've always stayed away from using cotton balls because i figured they can't be that sterile.

what do you guys think?

I have always used the cotton balls and rubbing alcohol. Seems to me they are plenty clean when you are using rubbing alcohol to swab the area.  I like how they are bigger and can cover a larger area, plus they are good to apply pressure to the area and soak up any blood.  I felt the pads seemed a little small and thin.

But I think you can buy sterile cotton balls too if you like.

Cool...

i've been thinking of switching to cotton balls because of the reason you mentioned. these pads are too damn small. i used to get some larger ones off the internet but i can't find them anymore.

yes I usually use sealed pads because of the reasons stated above, but I have also used cotton balls with no problems.

Ive never used anything but cheap cotton balls. Never a problem.
They soak up a lot of alcohol. I Mop and scrub the site w/ alcohol after it dries from a soap and hot water wash.

I have a box of preppads and never use them. Always use the trusty $0.99 cotton balls and rubbing alcohol.

I use sterile 3x3 gauze pads because they are readily available at work.  My next choice would be soaked cotton balls.  I agree that the little alcohol pads are too small and don't really contain much alcohol.

KEY POINT:  Your skin has NOT been sterilized until the alcohol has COMPLETELY dried.

I have a hillybilly friend who used to use cotton balls plus VODKA.

I use the pad when I swap my injection site but I use the cotton balls when I clean my vial and pins.

I use 100% alcohol it will make anything sterile.

Not to reuse for injection but when I'm withdrawing from one compound I.E. test e Ill clean it so i can use it to withdraw again.Thats only when I run real low on pins. but when I have plenty I just switch them out.

I wouldnt do that. If Im loading 2 or 3 diff compounds at a shot, I'll carefull use a sing;e 21ga to withdrawl all three.
But touching thet needle, even w/ a alcohol wipe is a No No.
Im surprised ya havent got an infection before?

Can't say I haven't done the same. To be honest, I was out of alchol and needed to do my shot so I used Vodka, no I got no infection...used the vodka after the shot to make sure as well....

Usually use the pads as well.

Makes no difference, baby Overload.

The isopropyl makes it sterile.

The pads are convenient, though.
