hahahahha, oh brother some doozies in the latest issue, Toney Freeman squatting 735 for 3 ass to the floor at 195 bodyweight and now doing 585 for 10 rock bottom reps all the time, Markus Ruhl saying he could shoulder press a pair of 200 pound dumbbells very easily and could also do a pair of 250's for a few reps. ::)
-
You, "Squadfather" need to get your ass to the powerlifting section. More fatty's overthere talking about heavy poundages.

if bodybuilders don't care about poundages how come they include them in every article?

The squat claims are always good for a laugh, but the 250lb db shoulder press for a couple reps AHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAH!!!!! What a load of dogshit!!

hahahahha, exactly, it always makes me laugh when bodybuilders say the amount of weight lifted isn't important it's all about squeezing the muscle and then turn around and claim to lift weights that would crush the strongest powerlifters. ::)

how on earth would someone even begin to handle 250's...they're so f'n big, even if he could move that weight the DB's themselves would be so awkward.....I don't get these guys anymore....
-
Jay looks great on the cover of this months FLex...but all grotesque looking physiques on the inside... over hyped advertisements, complelety uninspiring. Glad you can look at the mags without buying...
They actually reported one thing truthfully. They said Gary Strydom does all light weight ,fast high rep sets to get huge. They are right, he worked out at my gym for a week or two and he consistently did all fast high rep exercises with not too heavy weights. Always a flex at the peak movment. Moved very quickly and done fast. I was suprised you can get that bulky doing sets like that. He was a nice guy too very amicable and out going. Not pretentious at all.

big deal, so Freeman is claiming to be stronger than ronnie coleman at 100lb less..seem possible to me
-
I believe markus, Seen his shoulder press in the new dvd? :O
-
why are you all surprised? I used to use 200lb dumbells for shoulders, but they were too long and awkward. Now I use the Stallone method, using a cart. But I load it with iron, mut weigh a good 600lbs. I figure that equals 250-275lb dumbells.
as for Tony Freeman squats, after watching him train arms with 30's, I doubt it. We used to squat with Mack truck differentials loaded with dual tires. I think it weighed 5-600lbs. It made front squats very easy.
I dont know why you guys dont believe their claims...
-

I could see Marcus trying the 200s.
I know naturals who press more than 120 on the shoulder press.... @00 is crazy weight, but then again he is a FREAK, and i do not doubt that he can do it.
250 dbell?? that is another story.. Who the fook can lift them in the air to help him out, and who would spot him..
At that weight he should be doing his presses on a smith machine for safety.

You don't believe Ruhl can do that ? I don't know if it's in Made In Germany ..? Or XXXL ? But I think ? On the machine..He was pressing over 500lbs? I'm not certain.. I'll have to check later ... As for the other dudes .. Why no document it on video? Shit...If I was lifting weight like that? I'd make sure that shit was on video ..

Unreal

toney said that a long time in MD and I made a thread about it.
tony said it was true.
there is no way he could do that now, let alone at that weight and height.
i doubt phil harrington could do that weight easily. he is the record holder in the squat for 181 at 905. that's with gear.

i'd say to use the IPF records instead of the WPO/APF since that's single-ply without a monolift. in that case the record in the 198 division is 826.
now, again, that's with a suit and knee wraps, and for one rep. i'd bet my bottom dollar Ivan Shlyakhta could never hit 735x3 suitless.

Phil could not do that raw. I know Phil personally.

agreed. i know a few guys who can use the 120s, and hell i've pushed a pair of 105s for three shit reps. someone ruhl's size could get the 200s. but a pair of 250s, aside from that meaning he'd be pushing OVER five plates on a free bar press, would just be fucking unwieldy. how the hell would you get those into position? how would you not crack your own head?

I've been miss quoted on this many times for once an for all it was 7-45's and a 25 on each side. I did only bearly weigh 200lb's I did do it for 3 full reps. I've done six plates for sets of ten!! Now I get it done with less than 315lbs.
I don't have to bragg on my lifts. If you ask me what the most I've ever lifted I'll tell you what it was. The key word is was. I did a lot of things in my 20's I'd never do now!
DID YOU SEE THE WHEELS BRO!!!

haha we've seen the wheels bro-----------your a fucking monster----with a tight waist which makes it even more crazy
I always thought you were underrated even before everyone jumped on the bandwagon
dont let this sh*t get to you Tony-----------------just concentrate on taking that Sandow away from these bloated gut monsters!!!!!

usually it's the reporteers and photographers that insist that they invent these numbers...

yep, that was my point.
it be one thing freeman said that now - with a weight of 300 + - vs a weight of 195.

you forget..gary didnt always train like that..he used to train heavier back in the 80s (atleast for a few years)....so muscle memory combined with drugs does alot.

so your saying you did 725lbs in the squat for 3 reps weighing under 200lbs?
how deep where those reps?

7 45's on the bar = 675 + 2 25's = 725. so you were misquoted by a whopping 10 pounds. at sub-200 pounds hitting 725 for three presumably without a suit and possibly without knee wraps is nothing short of astronomical. that would give you somewhere in the area of a quadruple bodyweight max squat back then.
you're a bodybuilder, man. don't need to impress us with strength claims. just do your thing.

agreed, Toney looks absolutely unreal whether he squats 225 or 1500 but no way i believe that claim.

Toney Freeman is easily the greatest squatter of all time.
::)
I'd like to get Toney Freeman's version on this. Those claims are almost FLEX-like.

Look at the first page. He said he did 725 lbs for 3 deep reps.
I spoke to Phil Harrington on the phone today and he thinks he might be good for a raw single with that, but there is a big difference between 1 rep and 3.
Toney, were you wearing any powerlifting gear when you did that (a squat suit, wraps, etc.)?
Here is a video of Phil manhandling 880 lbs in the 198 lbs weight class a few weeks ago. This was his 2nd attempt, he then tried well over 900 lbs and missed.

I was 6'2" and 162 when started EVERYONE thought I was to tall and skinny they were wrong! I was 250 when I turned pro Everyone said I wasn't going to be a good pro never would get big enough. Pec tear this and no arms that. They were wrong too! That day of squatting was one of my best ever! I don't care who believes me or not. Harold Houge was spotting me he knows I know. A Belt and Straps in the hole...peace

Damn, Big T lost some serious size? 300 lbs to 195, wow! Need to see the pics of that

must be a typo, freeman's body weight should be 295lbs.

Of course you did ::)

I thought the Charles Glass comment at the end of his column about the gang-banger Tookie Williams was the most ridiculous...5-10 265, with 23 inch arms and a huge chest and quads.......all drug free ::) ;D
-
Charles Glass looks like a panhandler.
-
Toney owns you bitches
yep! :)
-

na he is talking about when he used to weigh under 200lbs...
-
Its kinda disappointing to hear Ruhl make such ridiculous claims. Hopefully it was MDs doing and not his. I don't doubt that Ruhl is one of the strongest bb'ers out there, particularly in the delts, but Ive never seen anyone bench with 250lbs dumbbells , let alone shoulder press them.
-
Truth to a bodybuilder is whatever they can convince you of. And when you dont believe them they flip out and start accusing you of being against them. It is a typical pattern.
-
In fairness, most bodybuilders have no idea what"rock bottom" means.Branch Warren claims he goes rock bottom and all the way down, but in his DVD he is miles above parralel. So Toney might think they were rock bottom but in reality they might have looked like Branchs' training partner who doesnt even bend his legs at all.Obviously whatever Freeman does it works.
