King James Version
book of Job Chapter 40, 15-24
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox
Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly
He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
His bones are as strong pieces of brass;his bones are like bars of iron.
He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him
Surely the mountains bring him fourth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
Behold, he drinketh up a river and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

The only joker here is you acting like your in grade three everyone else takes things seriously.

how do you figure it's talking about a dinosaur? That description can apply to several animals.

OK name an animal then and we will see if this discription will apply. Remember its tail is like a cedar.
-
I pulled this from a Christian website.
http://www.bibleandscience.com/science/dinosaurs.htm
"the description in Job 40:21-23 seems to allude to the area around Lake Huleh which was filled with buffalo. His tail is like a cedar branch that can easily bend or sway. This does not mean his tail was as long as or as big as a huge cedar tree for verses 21-23 say, "Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. The lotus conceal him in their shadow" (NIV). Reeds and lotus can not hide a huge dinosaur."
it seems that not all Christians agree on the same interpretation. Things that make you go "hmmm."

I highly dougt that a little dinky tail on a baffalo can be mistaken as a massive cedar, however you are right that some people think this way so really we aren't going to get anywhere if people start thinking that the sky is pink.

Sure they can...you get enough of them they'd hide a DC-10.

this could be many animals. Very very vague.

this could be many animals.
True, but the possibility of it being a dinosaur is not negated by the text.
-
True, but the possibility of it being a dinosaur is not negated by the text.
It is negated by the text being written about 65 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs and the fact that the people who wrote the text had no notion of paleontology or fossils or dinosaurs.
-
65 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs
Are you 100% sure it was that long ago? ;D
-
Are you 100% sure it was that long ago? ;D
Find me a legitimate scientist (a real one) who says otherwise, or a publication in a legitimate scientific journal. Until then, I'm sticking with what science says :)
-
True, but the possibility of it being a dinosaur is not negated by the text.
Nor is the possibility of it being a griffin or a dragon or a living shoe stuffed with cheese negated by the text.
Something as significant and awesome as a dinosaur would garner far more description
-
a living shoe stuffed with cheese
Oh man that sounds good. What kind of cheese?
-
Oh man that sounds good. What kind of cheese?
Parm, white cheddar, Jarlsberg and munster of course ;D
-
oh brother ::) whats next?
why Noah didn't save 2 of them.......... damn boat was too small
that text could be anything, plus, they had no idea about dinosaurs...... and please that is a book = story
written by different peoples with different ideas, a collection of texts all pointing in the same direction......

Mmmmmmmm! ;D

That's the problem with the Bible... apart from the 10 commandments it's always super vague... why did who ever wrote the part with the "Dino's" not just said: Look guys it's huge has large teeth and you should generally avoid it.
-

True, but then we would say that it could be talking about a white shark or a polar bear.
-
Yeah right... there were lots of polar bears in the middle east where the people who wrote the Bible lived...

So, tell me, how then did the polar bears make it onto Noah's arc?

First off, your comment about the ark is a common misconception. The boat was so big that not only it could fit all the animals, but possibly 2 or 3 times over. Consider the boats dimensions (300 cubits, 50, and 30. As in length, width and height.) This can be translated into 450 feet by 75 by 45. So the boat ends up being a whopping 1 518 750 cubic feet; a baby elephant will take up 12 cubic feet. Forty thousand baby elephants barley makes a dent in this number (over one and a half million). See what kind of results you can have if you just stop and think. "All the animals can't fit" is just a stupid argument.
This brings me to "ignorant comment number 2" They didn't know about dinosaurs. Thats why you see ancient drawings of dinosaurs and other types of species in caves and on building walls from all regions of the earth China, Mexico, England, and many parts of Africa. Clearly you just like to pick a side without doing your own research.
-
let's not forget Noah's Ark must have been high-tech. You need air conditioning to keep the animals cool, a fridge to store perishable food, aquariums to keep all the freshwater fish (die in salt water), and electricity powered lights to see at night since the number of candles/ torches required to light up a boat that size at night would pose a serious fire threat. Apparently, Noah invented the technology for all of this about 2,000 yrs ago.

Have you seen the boat yourself? You describe it so vividly.
As for the "ancient drawings of dinosaurs and other types of species in caves and on building walls from all regions of the earth China, Mexico, England, and many parts of Africa," care to share those pictures with us?
-
OneTimeHard, since you know so much about the Ark, tell us... did Noah go up to the North Pole and get polar bears and seals BEFORE the flood, or did he pick them up after the flood had started? Did he then make it to Australia in time to save the Kangaroos and other Marsupials?
-

The same magazines, such as national geographic, that teach you about evolution show these ancient drawings. I am actually looking at one right now. You think I'm making this up. As soon as I find out how to post these pictures I'll post at least 20 of them. OneTimeHard, since you know so much about the Ark, tell us... did Noah go up to the North Pole and get polar bears and seals BEFORE the flood, or did he pick them up after the flood had started? Your making a false assumption that the world was the same pre-flood that it is today. Hasn't anybody told you that we know for a fact that the northpole was at one point actually tropical. Hundreds of evedence of this, one being the frozen willy mamoth that they found in the north-pole with green vegetation still in its mouth. This being the case every single animal could have been at his doorstep. Nice try CD82, but at least your being more seriouse then your usual grade three comments.
-
Oh brother... are you telling me that polar bears and kangaroos lived in what is now the middle east?
-
Oh brother... are you telling me that polar bears and kangaroos lived in what is now the middle east?
Oh brother your getting sent to school today. Another false assumption; where ,please tell me where and how you know that noah was from the middle east. I have read the Bible so many times and It does not say where he is from, he could be from Australia for all we know.BTW if elephants are found in the north pole then ya kangaroos could have lived there, but we don't know that and its irrelevent. So far you've done nothing to poke a hole in this, but please keep trying because I will be glad to answere all your question, every single one.
-
OMG... so Noah may have lived in Australia, Kangaroos may have lived in the North Pole, and Elephants are found in the North Pole.
Go on. Amuse us some more :) You're too easy!

your doing nothing, I am at least answereing your question. And if you don't know about the willy mammoth found up north then your completly lost; everybody knows about that, ask, you'll see.
-
and what about adam & eve........ what do they know about noah?
-
No. Let him entertain us. He is far too easy a target to make fun of :)
Your comments show that I am overwhelming to you and your clearly not in an intelligible debate seeing that the only thing left for you to do is make fun instead of throughing something at me that at least holds a little bit of weight.
-
Answer me this then. How did Noah stop the carnivorous dinosaurs on board from eating other animals?
Did Noah bring fish, crustaceans, worms, and bacteria on board too? What about plants?
-

[/quaote]It is my understanding that before the flood dinosaurs lived with man and almost all were discontinued in the flood. Also this doesn't matter much, but that is only speculation that dinosaurs were meat eaters. They may have been or not but only speculation.
-
I learn something new with every new post of yours. Dinosaurs may have been meat eaters but that is only speculation.
Now tell me, what do you think should be the penalty for homosexuality?

so now your mocking. What is the reward for this?
-
Oh no, far from it. Here I was thinking that kangaroos and other marsupials had evolved in isolation in Australia, and that some dinosaurs (like T-rex) were carnivores.
Please, teach us some more :)
-
damn, that noah guy was a crazy dude, dinosaurs on board........ how do we know that those big guy didn't eat something we never saw....... and the trees how did he fixed that?
just wondering, volcano....... i mean with the big flood and everything, those who are 100,000 of years old if not millions....... how come they are still burning? and insects....... ahhhhh forget it.
that noah guy was full of surprise i'll tell you that ::)

Food - they could have got by without fridges if they brought extra animals on board and slaughtered them on an "as-needed" basis.
Fish - thousands of seperate tanks. (keeping clean & filtering would have been a constant chore)
Lights - glow worms
-
That's the problem with the Bible... apart from the 10 commandments it's always super vague...
Always is too big of a generalization STark!
-
Oh, you were? I never know with you.
So, tell me, how then did the polar bears make it onto Noah's arc?
Looks like God caused them to come to the ark.
Gen 7:8,9: Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah
Gen 6:20: Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
-

Why do they need a/c? People and animals live w/o a/c now. Same as electricity. More often than not lanterns and candles etc. can be pretty safe and do not always end in an uncontrolled fire.
I do find the freshwater fish question interesting though. Although Noah wasn't told to take them. From Gen 7:11 we see that "on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth (likely fresh water), and the floodgates of the heavens were opened (fresh water). So perhaps the fresh water diluted the ocean's salt water enough for freshwater creatures to survive? There was enough fresh water to cover the highest mountain on earth. I'd be interested to hear more about this if anyone has more input.
-
Have you seen the boat yourself? You describe it so vividly.
He's describing it from
Gen 14-16:
14 So make yourself an ark of cypress [c] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. [d] 16 Make a roof for it and finish [e] the ark to within 18 inches [f] of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.
-
Yes, and we all know that all the measurements and figures in the Bible are 100% accurate...

As soon as I find out how to post these pictures
To post a pic:
Hit "reply" as if you are going to post.
Under the box where you type your posts you'll see the words "Additional Options."
Click on those words.
Then you'll see the word "Attach" followed by a blank box, then a Button that says "Browse."
Hit the Browse button and find your pic. Double click it and it's name should appear in the box between the words "Attach" and "Browse."
Then hit post.
Also, you normally need to put something in the text box for it to work. You may just type a period or insert your choice of smiley if you don't want to type any text.
In addition sometimes your pic will not post because it exceeds the accepted size. It's possible you'll need to resize some pics.
-
Or, if you have a link to the pic, you can post it by putting the link between [img] [/img ] (without that last space)
-

Gen 6:21:
You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them."
I don't think he brought fish, crustys, worms, bacteria nor plants.
-
Did Noah bring viruses and bacteria on the ark too, to save them from the flood? Fish? Crab and crustaceans?
-

Looks like no:
GEn 7:8: Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground...
Although maybe he did bring worms...as they move along the (top of the) ground sometimes :)

Yes this works too!
-
Damn that sucks... those poor fishies, left to fend for themselves in that awful flood...
-
They lived long before him.
knew that........... i want to know if he believe the story about the couple, hope not!!!
-
Why do they need a/c? People and animals live w/o a/c now.
ever been stuck in a room or vehicle with a lot of people? It gets very hot. Now imagine 2 of every animal on earth huddled up together on a boat with no air conditioning for weeks. Those poor penguins and polar bears. :(
Same as electricity. More often than not lanterns and candles etc. can be pretty safe and do not always end in an uncontrolled fire.
torches and candles would be impractical for several reasons. First, you would need hundreds or possibly thousands of them to light up a boat the size of Noah's Ark. Second, the boat was made of wood. That many open flames (lanterns weren't around 4,000 yrs ago) would pose a serious fire threat. Third, re-lighting or replacing all those torches/ candles for 40 straight nights would be quite a task.
-
The whole idea of putting 2 of every animal on a boat is absurd. How many species of animals were around then?
And did Noah have 1 Negro child, 1 Mongoloid child and 1 Caucasion child?
-
knew that........... i want to know if he believe the story about the couple, hope not!!!
I don't think I understand what your question is?

No need to feel sorry for them...their habitat was even bigger than usual :)ever been stuck in a room or vehicle with a lot of people? It gets very hot. Now imagine 2 of every animal on earth huddled up together on a boat with no air conditioning for weeks. Those poor penguins and polar bears. :(
According to Gen 6:16: "Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of tthe top." So the way I read it is most of the way around the top of the ark was a gap for ventilation.
In addition, the animals could have been babies/juvenile.

But why would you need to light up the whole boat?
Houses are made of wood and many have had candles lit in them w/no adverse effects.

I don't know. According to the footnotes in my Ryrie study bible "Today it is estimated that there are 17,600 species of animals, [which would make] 45,000 a likely approximation of the number Noah might have taken into the ark."
And did Noah have 1 Negro child, 1 Mongoloid child and 1 Caucasion child?

I might be completely in correct, but aren't there more than 17K species of insects on Madagascar alone?
And i ask about 1 Negro child, 1 Mongoloid child and 1 Caucasion child because shouldn't we have all descended from noah?
-
insects alone..... couldn't be done, so many of them, and they ruled the earth before everything... so how did he pull that one of?
and did he saved caveman too... and dinosaurs inhabited Earth (about 250 million years ago to about 65 million years ago) creationists say that the earth is not older than 6000 years old....
with all the different human race, how did it happen...
bottom line...... didn't happen, no Noah or boat, flood, you name it.... it's just a nice little story
oh and Stella question was did he believe in Adam & Eve too
-
Noah's story is a great one, very similar thought to the one of Gilgamesh. :-\
the major parts of the bible was taken from Egyptian religions thousands of years before hand.
Similar characters to Noah, Moses and Jesus were all described before the bible was even thought off.
-HORUS
-ATTUS
-KRISHNA
-MITHRA
-DIONYSUS
all have the same story as Jesus, but was written thousands of years before the bible...
-MANOU
-MINOS
-MISES
all have the same story as Moses, but was written thousands of years before the bible...
the bible is just another story to explain what cant be logically understood.
nothing can be proven. there is no mention of Jesus in any other texts aside from the bible.
-

And i ask about 1 Negro child, 1 Mongoloid child and 1 Caucasion child because shouldn't we have all descended from noah?
[/quote I see I can come back and answere your reasonable questions (Beast m, and CD82 were starting to get childish yesterday, so i logged off.). 17k species or more works if you count all the variations within the kind, for example there is hundreds of variations of dogs. What you fail to understand is that the Bible is perfectly clear by stating "of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind. This simply means 2 dogs, not hundreds of different dogs such as a bit bull, bull dog, German Sheppard, etc...
After their kind means that your numbers just got shorter significantly, possibly to only a few hundred. Two dogs, 2 horses 2 elephants, 2 cats, not that many animals if you do not include the variations.
To your question about different races. This is very simple to answere. I know a guy that is 5 foot five and his wife is 5 foot three, their son six two. You know this happens all the time after only one generation, so 20-to 30 generations well you do the math. We are all still human here not like were growing a third arm or a tail.
-
Stella, I have seen the number of species put way higher than that in biology textbooks. I don't mean to be the annoying nit-picky fact-checker on here, but, well... :)
-
what?
Noah sends a dove out to see if there was any dry land. But the dove returns without finding any. Then, just seven days later, the dove goes out again and returns with an olive leaf. But how could an olive tree survive the flood? And if any seeds happened to survive, they certainly wouldn't germinate and grow leaves within a seven day period. 8:8-11
When Noah was 500 years old, he had three sons.
5:32
God decides to kill Moses because his son had not yet been circumcised. Luckily for Moses, his Egyptian wife Zipporah "took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me. So he [God] let him go." This story shows the importance of penises to God, and his hatred of foreskins. 4:24-26
lolllllllllll, wow what else can i say?

-
STella, how do you explain the different ethnicities of man?
According to the Book of Mormon, God cursed the people he didn't like and made them darkies.
-
STella, how do you explain the different ethnicities of man?
Simple: there wasn't a flood that killed "every person" on earth except Noah and his family.

ridiculous
Why is it riduculous to believe in? There are people that think what you think is ridiculous. Comments and opinions are useless without any basis. Stella got asked a valid question any he gave a valid answere, actually a very good one.

You, my friend, are the biggest joke I have ever met on the Internet.
You are funnier than any forward I have ever received, and certainly more ridiculous.
If you really believe in the false claims you make, you would be shouting them off the roof tops at those ignorant college professors and researchers.
You seriously, honestly think that you know better than all the greatest minds of the world.

OMG there are some whack jobs in this board.
Every time someone asks for hard proof about a biblical event they always go straight to the bible scriptures. ::) That's like me going to a crack dealer to confirm that crack has healing properties.
There is no use arguing over religion. We can only hope there is another "flood" that takes their asses.

Actually there will never be another flood because God promised us he wouldn't flood the earth again, the sign is the rainbow, sorry.

Bump for answer.
Is exactly what is in the links what I believe? I don't know. I guess I'd have to think about it more thoroughly and do additional research.
I thought this part was pretty interesting though:
"Virtually all evolutionists would now say that the various people groups did not have separate origins. That is, different people groups did not each evolve from a different group of animals. So they would agree with the biblical creationist that all people groups have come from the same original population. Of course, they believe that such groups as the Aborigines and the Chinese have had many tens of thousands of years of separation. Most believe that there are such vast differences between the groups that there had to be many years for these differences to develop."
But I also think the links were pretty incomplete. I would have liked to see more about Mongoloid eye fat as well as hair texture information.
What did you think of the links Zach? Do you have some more informative ones you could post?

How the hell did a fundy wack job get to be moderator here?

How long was it since Noah and the Arc?
Approx 4500 years ago. (source: http://www.nwcreation.net/noahsark.html)
That would be some 50-60 generations, give or take a few.
How could all these people below have Noah as their common ancestor, only 50-60 generations ago? :-\

I think STella is being as open-minded and trying to learn as much about religion as anyone.
This board is nice IMO.

Exactly. Totally impossible. Biological changes don't happen that quick and that dramatic.
Oh wait..I have an answer. It says here in scriptures blah , blah, blah... ::)
That's whats coming next I guarantee.

Hedge, in addition to those people in your post, there also the "people" in my other thread "Which of these were created in God's image"..
