I'm attending a wedding next week, and i'm very excited about it of course. But what i'm not too excited about is getting tailored. I went to the tuxedo store to get sized up a few days ago, and for the jacket i'm a 48R and in pants i'm a 38 waist. I'm actually a size 36-37 waist, but my thighs and glutes make it a little bigger than what my waist appear to be in pants.
Is it just me or does anybody else from this board experiance the same pain in the neck when it comes to getting tailored?
Thanks

Last time I wore a tux was at my brothers wedding. Got fitted and since they said they wouldn't use it again they gave it to me. size 62 jacket 38 pants. not the wedding but a tux

The Asian girl gave me a happy ending while measuring the inseam. 8)

I rented one for my wedding, we spend enough money on a wedding dress she will never use again, so no need to do the same with my tux...it was super hot in Latvia and the friggen think nearly chocked me ;) but it was still an awesome day.

i get to wear tuxes a few times a year for work related functions.... i had one tailored last year... i mean cut from scratch, not just fitted... best decision i ever made

If you ever go to Hong Kong (Kowloon) you can get the same exact quality for 1/3 that price. I had 3 custom suits, shirts and silk ties all monogramed for $1200. They looked and felt exactly like Armani. The place I went to was called Arshad's I think. My pic is on the wall there. What's neat is they take all your measurement and have them on file so if you need anything you can call them and they will make then ship direct to you wherever you are and in most case in 7 to 10 days you will have it in hand.

Believe me I can't do that right now either. It would probably cost me a ton of money for the fabric to cover e now.

yeah but I'm the total opposite of all the millionairs here :) I get by but in todays time you don't make a lot of cash as a manager so we try to save what we can, I'm also to fucking chicken to take some risks and to go to a bank because I have been in trouble with money before and it was horrific all you think is money money money..

Dude I take so many chances and have literally lost millions because of it. My fault is (before) that I had the ideas but didn't have the business sense to do it myself so I had to have others do everything for me. That is where I was stupid because all they did was come in and take everything and I end up with nothing. When I owned Purely Hawaiian in the early 90's that company was heading for super-stardom. We had it in many many stores here and California and even in the Orient which was really hard. We were offered millions of dollars to sell out to a competitor and chose not too. It ended up in bankruptcy after one of our major accounts filed bankruptcy and we didn't get paid. Things started going downhill and I lost everything. A pretty well known fact is how much was lost on my gym was building here where the developer came in a literally stole over a million out of our account and I was out of business soon after that. I just keep getting back up. Now I am in a solid deal and moving to vegas this week. So thing are looking up again. Nwo I just got to get my weight down and I will be back on top. I have been broke more times than I can count. I just can get back on my feet really good. I always have something happening or coming up.

i am not even close to rich... but a good suit can make or break a business deal.
and yes keith i have tried some cheaper asian tailoring companies, i found the lack of a personal touch annoying... Gabriel (my 70 year old Italian tailor) and his son will make any adjustments i want for free for the life of any clothes they make

I made myself a promise that if we go to Latvia next year we will take a risk get some money from the bank any buy 3 properties.. Latvia is going to be shithot Europe wise in 4-5 years.
Hey I'm 33 I think I still have some time, evern if I'm sometimes amazed at some of the legit 25 year olds who make more money now thatn I ever did :o 25 I just came out of the Army at that point and was pennyless :D

I had to wear a suit this morning, I hated it. They always make my suits tight in the ass and wasit. I like my clothes baggy. I even tell the little Italian guy not to make it so tight, but he does. I think thats the way it is supposed to look, but I don't like it. I wear a 32 jeans and they are baggy and my suits are probably like 30 inch waists.
-
You can't even get fuckings pants in 30-32 any longer..
I have to wear 34 and they fucking sag down unless I use a tight belt.
38 inch waist? Holy shit, you're one fat fuck.

DKNY is too slim fitting for me, not saying I have big legs I just don't like the way they fit. I have Nautica golf style shirts but no jeans.

Dude I blew y wad in the 80's and 90's. Been scraping a little since 2005 but now things are looking way up for me again. Putting together this new gym chain is awesome and it appears it could take off very well. Hey gotta go for it now or regret I never did.

I am a 50R in jacket, and the pants i'm smaller in waist. But since the tailor mention that i'd have to make the "tux look right" and not tailored to the 10th power where i look retarded. We went with 48 jacket and 36 pants.
I also had a great time at the wedding. One of the waitresse's working there gave me her # and some other cute girl.

Hey Stark,
You could consider it a good investment. Most guys I know own their own tuxedos, but coming from the film industry it was an investment that more than paid for itself. Most male actors I knew would buy their own tux, and have it pay for itself within a month. Film companies hate having to rent tuxes from tux rental places, and fit them etc. Simply booking a performer who has his own, and paying a nominal rental fee or dry cleaning fee is much easier. Plus scenes requiring tuxes & elaborate ball gowns usually involved multiple long days to film with plenty of overtime. Even if booked in the lowest paying job category 3-4 days on set with tux, overtime, etc can easily amount to $1500 - $2000 in your pocket. The tux is paid for... it's a tax write off, ...and you own it. 4 or 5 bookings like that a year is a pretty good return on the investment no?
