Al Oerter was a 4 TIME Olympic Gold Medalist for the USA in the discuss, won gold in 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1968, a legend in track and field, first man to throw the discuss 200 feet, won a Gold Medal with broken ribs, threw a World Record at age 43, brutally strong man in the weight room as well.

exactly, a lot of bodybuilders could learn something looking at this guy, a true athlete, All American at the University of Kansas, 4 time Gold Medalist in the Olympic Games, 6'4" 255 pounds and brutally strong.

Ya I remember hearing his name a lot back then. To win in his 40s would be unusual now, back then it was even more so; age 30 was considered the end of most athlete's careers in that era.
I like watching the shotput at the Olympics because you can usually count on seeing a couple of good physiques due to the power and speed requirements of it. Brian Oldfield was another awesome specimen, who made Ferrigno seem small at the WSM.

RIP to Mr. Oerter. He used to train in the first gym I worked out in back in the early 80's. He was attempting to qualify again for another Olympic run. I used to see this guy do bench squats with 700 lbs + bench 500 for 2/3 reps. It should be noted that the years he won his Gold medals, he competed with an injury. Again RIP...
