Samir never had a great career but for one night he
became one of the best packages brought to a bodybuilding stage
ever. He had plenty of muscle for his frame. He had great proportion,
symmetry, asthetics, muscle separation and deep striations rarely seen
today. His biggest flaw was subpar hamstrings but nobodies perfect.
I'd like to hear some of your guys honest opinions on Samir 1983.

you'll never see a Christmas tree like his again
amazing back

No HGH gut; he sucks! ;D
-
Absolutely ! look at the last pic look at that separation and detail in his quads just mindblowing can you believe he was just 188 pounds in 1983?
One of my all-time favorites

Samir's arms and especially back have alot better separation than Jay's ever did or ever will. He doesn't have a gh gut and that split between the abs that alot of guys have nowadays, even Wolf. His hamstrings are weak, but the shape of that muscle is genetic, he could have made them bigger but they would never curve out like Victor Martinez's or Chris Cormier's.

my 2nd fav bodybuilder ever (behind Sergio Oliva)

Samir is one of my favourite bodybuilders as well. in 1983, he was just out right damn near perfect. Here are some great pics
-
awesome conditioning for 1983
-
sadly that was one of the last Mr. Olympias to be judged fairly. no one really disagrees that he didnt deserve it that year, unlike most other years.
-
Samir nailed it, much Props to him on that day back in 83! 8)

-
I've got his book, it's pretty good with some great pics.
-
I thought I posted this topic earlier. Fuck. ;D
-
guy was a midget and the only reason you guys keep posting his picture is because you're midgets too. same with all fans of lee priest.
-
Just goes to show you that you don`t have to weigh 270 pounds to look big, thick, and full.
Awesome physique and would probably place last these days sadly enough!!
-
wouldn't mind looking like that, very complete.
-
Samir's hamstrings in his day (circa 1983) were comparable with other bber's of the period. Hamstrings/glutes were bodyparts that grew in importance in the post Gaspari/Renel Janvier era..

placing Bannout in 4th in 1982 was another ifbb travesty... he looked so much better than frank zane who got 2nd.

Samir was happy about the placing because he knew he arrived can you believe the Mr Olympia was Samir's FIRST pro win lol imagine that as your first win !

This why I say bodybuilding has been ruined.....it should be about looking like they were carved out of stone (perfect analogy by the way), deep cuts, deep separation, and just the right amount of size and aesthetics. Those days are looooong gone!

I was training and staying in LA the summer of 83 with Frank Grieco (Mr. California who purchased Steve Davis' "Valencia Gym). Frank was good friends with Samir and we visited him at his apartment in late summer. He had just gotten back from European tour to begin training for "O". He was about 175 Lbs. soft with 16" arms. I was shocked, he looked like hell. I expressed my shock to Frank when we left, and all he did was grin and say "just wait". When I saw the pics from the 83 O I could not beleive it was the same guy...Christmas tree and all.....
Talk about a genetic freak for training and receptors!!!!
-
PS. Rachel Mclish was over at his place the night before ;)
-
[ 4K UHD ] 1983 Samir Bannout in his Prime ;D
-
When he won the O I think he weighed 188lbs. He looked amazing. I like the story he tells of Mentzer and Viator deadlifting after lats. I believe the weight was 585lbs. Viator and Mentzer failed and Samir did reps with it.

smoking hot she was.

I think he was 188 in '82 when he got 4th and about 196 in '83.
-
Samir in 1983 was one of the best ever in my opinion. Too bad he couldn't duplicate that condition after that.
-

Exactly. Danny in '81 looked like he was carved from stone.

Samir got really close in I think one of the 1989 European shows after the Mr. O. I have one of those shows on VHS with the best lighting that I've ever seen at a show. Every competitor in the top six was amazing. I can't remember who even won the show? It may have been Samir? I also remember in a Frank Zane interview about Samir winning in 83 that he wasn't happy about what Samir did to come in that condition as he deemed it too risky with what methods he employed.

As a massive fan of Samir, that is very interesting. Can anyone shed some light please?

Taffin, if I had to guess where I got that from, I would have to say the most likely source that I remember was the monthly cassette tapes that folks could buy from Bill Phillips during those old Muscle Media 2000 days? He did them monthly and promoted them. My buddy had all of the first series of them and would copy them and give them to me. I only have the Dan Duchaine one left and haven't listened to in forever. It's great, or was in it's time. I remember there was one Dr. Scott Connolly of Met-Rx too. I'm really digging deep into an old brain on this.

That's really cool - I had no idea they existed - it would be fascinating to hear that sort of thing nowadays...
Dear Santa - please can you get someone to upload these things onto Youtube (or something) - thanks (worth a try ;D)

He was like a shorter version of Arnold, no?
