Title: Marcus Davis?
Post by: danielson on October 05, 2007, 04:57:00 PM
My buddy was telling me today that Marcus Davis is someone to watch out for. Is that the same guy that Joe Stevenson picked up and walked casually over to his corner on TUF and beat him in like 40 seconds? Or am I thinking of someone else? Anyone know when his next fight is? I think he was a good boxer, but no ground skills whatsoever when he was on the show.

He is training with Kru Dellagrote.  Recently got a win by sub as well.  Becoming very well rounded.

I like how he's been calling out Gomi, a guy that fights a weight class below him.  Why dosen't he call out Gsp,Karo,Fitch,Hughes,Diego or Serra?  The only thing I don't like about Davis is, for being a pro boxer he takes alot of punishment on the feet, mostly with feet.  He got dropped in his last fight, and he also did when he fought Spratt.  Spratt actually had Davis out on is feet, and was picking him apart the whole fight, but he got saved by the bell.  He's much improved, but still has along way to go to compete with the top guys in his own weight class, I think a good sturdy test for him would be somebody like Burkman, or Neer.

The one thing you don't do against Pete Spratt is stand.  If I were to fight him, I am shooting after the bell rings.

Why risk it, though?  Spratt is one dimensional with marginal takedown defense, and no guard game.  Take him down and finish him.  No need to prove your manhood by trading.

He actually had trouble taking Spratt down, the only reason why Spratt hit the ground was because he went for a head kick and slipped on the floor logo, then he got leg locked.  Old Spratty can't catch a break.

i agree he did have trouble taking spratt to the ground.. i think it was a matter also that he thought he could stand with him and want to show his knock out skill...almost back fired on him though. spratt is a good fighter in my opinion and it was a good win for marcus
