from 5 to the best of 7? baseball cant be happy with 3 out of 4 of these series ending in sweeps. it seems that after playing all of these regular season games these series should be decided in 7 games. the better team is going to win a 7 game series which doesnt always happen in a short series. 162 games is too long as it is so baseball should get it together and end the regular season a week earlier then extend these first round series to best of 7's.

well more often than not the better team does. still i think a 7 game series would give a better indication of that.
the reagular season is already so long. why not knock a week off the regular season and extend that first round to a best of 7?

Outside the big market teams imo I dont think many people want a 7 game series. Think about how low the rating's where when the cards won it all. I thought the length of the series was perfect this year. Although I might not have felt the same had the sox not swept the cards in three ;) :P

I don't agree. I don't see how three out of five is a crap shoot. One out of one sure, but three out of five? If one teams beats another three times out of five, or three times in a row I think thats rather definitive.
Don't take offense to this, but I think the only ones saying three out of five is a crap shoot are those in danger of losing the series.
If the sox lose three out of five in the ALCS I will be content with the fact the better team won. Imo of course.

Understandable,but a seven game series for the Yanks or Sox would be to their advantage.they would be able to wear down an opposing team's pitching staff.
But weather wise it would suck.it gets to damn cold for alot of teams and fans.

no i would like to see the regular season shortened by a week so the first round would start a week earlier. that isnt something the players union and owners would ever agree on though.
here are a few quotes made by tom glavine on the tbs post game show last night...
“A seven-game series creates an atmosphere where, most of the time, the better team is going to win,” Glavine says.
“In the best-of-five, there is way too much of a chance the better team will not win.”

Why

they need to play less regular season games, keep it to 156 or so. and keep the playoff format like it is now. Playin games in Nov is not baseball
