Title: Substituting BCAAs for protein?
Post by: militarymuscle69 on October 10, 2007, 06:11:53 PM
A co-worker said he was tired of trying to consume enough protein in a day so he is just going to substitute BCAA pills for protein. Isn't is meant to supplement protein not substitute?

I like BCAA's. Prob is price. Best way to use is when your the most beat down.
Right after brutal workout, of before bed taht night is when I like. Also during a nasty workout, towards the end.

I feel that they can tip the anticatabolic ballance a bit. Similar to maybe 5mg of Primo. Not like 500mg of Testo,
but every little bit helps when your beat. And, it's legal.

They wouldnt be a bad thing in the desert heat, nor would creatin & glutamine in gatoraide IMO. Help keep weight on doing hard work in the heat. Thats a fact.  ;)  hard to choke down food in the heat.

Even if you grind down, it'll help save lean mass at expence of fat. Good stuff, but not cheap.

That is a stupid idea. He needs the calorie value from protein, whole food and/or powders. Hopefully he is still eating some protein because BCAA is only three aminos vs. needing all 22 for muscle repair and growth. BCAA get used during workouts, right away.

Trab was right, best times for BCAA is pre + post workout. I drink a BCAA mix while training and still consume 1.25 g. per lb of bdywt daily in protein.

Sit back and watch your co worker wither away....

great results

I'm using Poliquins BCAA protocol , didint buy his BCAA because its to expensive so I  created  trueprotein custom mix 65% bcaa 35% leucine  , same like poliquin bcaa but  in powder form and way cheaper  , its bitter but its OK with flavored WMS also cheap , 2.5$ for 1lb

I love BCAA's on a cutting diet.  I take 20g during WO with EAA's.  BCAA's are on sale right now at bulknutrition, same for WMS.  If the raw material cost of BCAA's ever got down low enough it would be as popular as creatine
