Bush case break?
By Charles Robinson and Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports
October 9, 2007
The NCAA appears to be on the verge of a major breakthrough in its investigation of Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush.
Two sources have told Yahoo! Sports that Lloyd Lake, one of the financiers of failed marketing company New Era Sports & Entertainment, has agreed to meet with NCAA investigators and turn over financial records and other evidence that would tie Bush and his family to nearly $280,000 in extra benefits allegedly taken during Bush's days at USC. Lake – one of two New Era financiers who allegedly delivered cash payments and other benefits to Bush and his family – is preparing to file suit against Bush and his family later this month.
Sources said that Lake's meeting with the NCAA could include discussion of Bush's relationship with New Era Sports – from financial records and receipts to how and when payments were made – and information about other parties who might have had financial involvement with the running back and his family. Such revelations would likely allow the NCAA's slowed investigation to move forward.
[...]
Taped conversations between Lake, Bush, Bush's stepfather LaMar Griffin and others starting in December 2005 now could be examined as evidence by the NCAA. Sources have told Yahoo! Sports that those tapes provide proof of a financial relationship between the New Era financiers and Bush's family during his days at USC. The tapes could pave the way for significant penalties for USC and ultimately could lead to Bush losing the Heisman Trophy he won in 2005 when he led USC to the national championship game against Texas.
The conversations also could prove Bush's family started taking money from Michaels and Lake during the 2004 season, when USC went undefeated and won the national championship in a rout of Oklahoma.

He might as well have.
He brought the NCAA and USC multi-millions.

This issue is widespread throughout big time college sports. I don't know why anyone is surprised at this anymore. Of course he took money and so did hundreds of other college football and basketball players during the same period. To call 99.9% of these athletes students is laughable. They're there to generate revenue for the schools via their athletic ability and nothing more. They might as well get paid for their services.

Couldn't agree more. As if sponsors and alumni don't give these students money. Go by any college and see the athletes rides. Fuck I don't know how Jared Zabranski goes to the bar every fucking night with his boys and racks up 100 dollar bar tabs when there living off student loans. That's Boise state shit. Imagine the #1 team in the nation I would almost gurantee that every starting player recieves something illegal. Aint no way they don't how many of you show up for work without getting paid?
-
I third that. These schools make millions of them. Screw the NCAA.

{giggle}
Everytime you guys write "Bush"... I assume you're talking about the pResident.
I knew something was up there, 'cause that Bush barely spent time at Yale let alone USC. ;D

It happens on every campus. I know a player that went to South Carolina and i believe he was the #1 player in the country and he was getting paid. Even in high school games the South Carolina Alum's were giving him $100 dollar handshakes. Bush was asked how did his parents pay for the house and he avoided the question. Reggie may have been too stupid to answer the question, it's understandable. I would think he would have said they made the house payments but maybe he was flustered, that is understandable.

Oh by the way, how's he doing this year ;D ;)

The scholarships don't pay dick to those students.
The NC double assholes need a reality check. It's insane the money these athletes generate for these athletic programs.
I'm sure they NCAA feels that no one student(athlete or not) is above anyone as far as whether they deserve to get paid.
But when's the last time 80,000 fans packed into a stadium to see some math geek take a trigonometry test?

Lol. I know.
I love how he takes his shot and then does bicep curls.
Let's put the women and children to bed...

Why is this 2-year-old 'story' getting any airtime at all now?
Fact is, the NCAA is a business masquerading as a 'governing body'.
They are easily the most corrupt sports organization in the entire world.

this is investigation is only screwing the guys that are playin college ball now ,because if it is proved that reggie took the money the NCAA is gonna clamp down all that much harder to make sure it dos'nt happen again...
