Title: Is Fedor overrated?
Post by: Bluto on October 12, 2007, 04:37:01 AM
Dana seems to think so:

"I think that Fedor is completely overrated – he’s fought Mark Coleman and Matt Lindland in the last year, with Mark Hunt being his only legitimate opponent - and I actually think that Randy Couture would have smashed Fedor."

that's nothing more than sour grapes right there which is kind of amateurish on dana's part......

could you even imagine him saying that had he signed fedor ?

Nah. That being said I wish Fedor fought more often... he only had 3 fights since 2005, that could eventually become a problem for him. He used to fight 4-5 times a year but only fought once all 2007.

Liddell's been the most popular fighter in the world for years and he was barely fighting twice a year. Fedor has no competition left, he's beaten every one but the UFC scrubs that have no business being in the ring with him. That's just Dana being Dana when he doesn't get his way. And this is exactly why I hope Cuban demolishes the UFC with a better product.

I'd wish he fight more too but last time he was fighting 4-5 times a year he ended up breaking his hand and having to miss almost a year. He's probably taking it easy for now.

He beat every guy put in front of him, how could fedor be overrated?  If anybody is overrated it's randy just look at his overall record.

The majority of UFC belt holders over the years were overrated. Hughes for example.

most people I know picked against him to beat silvia and most people picked against him to defend against silva.

Fedor is so overrated, that Dana was offering him 1.2 million per fight.

Dana is a fucking idiot. ::)

Stylistically, Randy does match up well on paper.  He hasn't encountered someone who is heavy handed as Fedor.  IF RANDY could crowd Fedor, keep him up against the fence, he could do well.  This is assuming he can clear the striking range, and get into the clinch.  Randy hasn't had to show his guard game since Barnett and Ricco.  Fedor has an active guard, and has subbed people off his back.

Is he overrated?  No.  He has beaten everyone DSE threw at him.  Nog isn't a joke, and he made him look human.  Crocop when he was at the top of his game got stuffed, and pounded.

sounds pretty stupid if you ask me. he can't be serious. he has to be trying to bait fedor or something..or maybe he is just trying to make fedor look bad. whatever the case is fedor is/was pound for pound the best in the world

He is overrated now, dana said he is the best heavyweight in the world.  Even Dan Lebatard on PTI today said he is the baddest man on the planet.

For the record Fedor beats Couture.

Whats Randy going to do take him down? ::) You think Randy is the master of gameplans well think twice....just watch how Fedor fought NOG twice/3...he changed up his gamplan from the first fight. The second fight he just was striking and daring Nog to go for a takedown...dont forget Nog has pretty good hands too and Fedor just toyed with him.

Randy's game is the clinch....he doesnt shoot and is very slow......people seem to forget Fedor has very good takedown defense and even if Randy takes him down...Fedor is still dangerous. I can see him sweeping Randy from the bottom and introduce him to real GNP....or subbing him from his back.

Either way Fedor will come out on top and people would say cause Randy was old.  :'(

I think Randy would get the takedown.  Can he keep him down is another story, especially if he wants to avoid the sweep or sub attempt.  Lindland, who's chin isn't as good as Randy got Fedor down.  Getting Fedor down isn't he issue, keeping him there, or doing something from top and not getting subbed is.

Randy hasn't fought anyone with that much power in his hands, not to mention Fedor has relatively quick hands.  Fedor also has incredible balance, if he were to train in the cage, I think he would master the cage walk.  Not to mention if Fedor got top, he'd introduce a new level of ground and pound with elbows from within the guard.

No offense to the Fedor fans, but how will he fight clean, we all see how some of the pumped up Pride guys have been doing when they are tested, not saying they all or even Fedor juices, but it is something to consider, think it would have been one hell of a fight no matter who won, but thanks to Dana, and notice he has a girls name, White, we will probable never know.

Fedor is very explosive....he has great footwork too....I can see Randy getting a takedown but I can also see him walking into one of Fedors bombs...Randy just stands flat footed and plodes forward. I would love to see both men in the clinch....wouldnt be surprise if Fedor throw him....all and all Fedor has many advantages in how to win the fight....

To bad we might not see it....IMO Barnett has the best shot of beating Fedor.

agree.

i hate barnett, but for the kind of level he was showing in Pride, i dont think he would have problem in getting UFC belt very quick, unless he pulls a Cro Cop (wich is clearly pulling off a Belfort, LOL)
Probably Minotauro will get the Belt the minute he get the shot for it...its just a matter of time now with Mirko out of his way and with all this thing with Couture...In fact i would love to see a Minotauro x Couture fight
Dana is being stupid now...saying Fedor is overrated is like saying Tyson was overrated, or Shumacher was overrated in his days...I mean, the guy is undefeated for YEARS, has fought THE some of THE best fighters on earth...what more do he want???

the heavyweight division does look less interesting now... say what you will about randy but he has surprised us quite a few times... and you gotta love his strategy/game plan for his fights.

when dana is marketing crocop, nog etc as some of the greatest fighters, giving them millions to fight etc it doesnt make sense that the guy who beat them all - is overrated  ::) i just think he needs to be professional and admit that it didnt go his way but he hopes that fedor will end up in ufc eventually in the future or something like that

By "years" Im assuming you mean 2.  Because before he won the title he was by no means the most popular fighter in the world.  And IMO was NEVER the most popular fighter in the world.  Maybe the most popular fighter amongst TUF Newbs that know shit about MMA before Feb 05.  God I hate what that fuckin show has done to the sport.
