(according to "Question of the Week" from gotquestions.org)
Question: "Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?"
Answer: The Muslim and Christian view of God have many similarities. Muslims and Christians agree that there is one God who is the Creator of everything in the universe. Both view God as sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, holy, just, and righteous. In these ways, Christians and Muslims worship the same God. However, there are also significant differences between Islam and Christianity’s view of God. While Allah (Allah is the Muslim and Arabic word for God) possesses the attributes of love, mercy, and grace, Allah does not demonstrate these attributes in the same manner as the biblical God acts.
The most important difference, though, between the Muslim and Christian view of God is the concept of the Trinity. Christians believe that God has revealed Himself as one God in three Persons: God the Father, the Son of God (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit.
God’s Son became a human being, Jesus Christ, to take away the penalty and power of sin by dying on the cross. After rising from the dead, Jesus went back to heaven to be with His Father. He sent His Spirit to teach men the truth through His Word, the Bible. One day, Christ will return to judge the earth; those who have trusted in Him will go to heaven, but those who have rejected Him must be separated in hell from the holy God.
Therefore, the belief in the Trinity is essential to the Christian faith. Without the Trinity, there is no incarnation of God’s Son in the Person of Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ, there is no salvation for sin. Without salvation, sin condemns all to hell.
So, do Christians and Muslims worship the same God? Yes and no. Perhaps a better question would be, "Do Christians and Muslims both have a correct understanding of who God is?" To this, the answer is definitely no. Because of crucial differences between the Christian and Muslim concepts of God, the two faiths cannot both be true.
Because the Bible provides the solution to sin, we believe that Christianity has the correct view of God. Becoming a human being, God’s Son died to pay for the sin of those who trust in Him. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

So, do Christians and Muslims worship the same God? Yes and no.
This part surprised me. I guess I didn't think they worshipped the same God.
What are your thoughts?
-
Is the invisible pink unicorn that I saw the same as the invisible pink unicorn that you saw?
Some questions don't really have an answer. There are about as many notions of god as there are believers.
Can you even claim that all Christians worship the same god? From southern baptists to catholics to methodists...
-
my $0.02....There are several Christian religions that do not follow the trinity.
-
All muslims are going to burn in hell so what's the point?
;)
-
It would actually depend what your definition of the same God is. If we are talking about a God that created everything then we can practily say that most religions are talking about the same God; this isn't a suitable statement of course because every other aspect of one creator to another is significantly different, however muslims to share a similar time line with christians and they also share most of the major profits of the old testament. The trinity and the way to salvation is where they are in direct conflict to one another. If every single detail of God has to be the same in both religions then no they aren't the same God. If most details are the same and you believe one religion to be confused then you should be able to accept that they worship the same God but one religion just has a misunderstanding of God.

God is God, Stellar I've gotta say I'm dissappointed that would still be stuck on questions like these :P

Zeus is Zeus. Apollo is Apollo. Thor is Thor.
The ancient Germans worshipped 'Odin' as Wotan, the Anglo-Saxons as Woden and the ancient Norse as Othin...
I am still puzzled at how a moderator here is a fundy nut.

My personal opinion here is that they are not the same God.
You normally hear muslims bleating this statement, along with "jesus is a prophet of islam too".
Problem is, in Christianity Jesus is not a prophet of God at all. Jesus is God.
Why would a single entity (God) create 2 very distinct "religions" at pit man against man (resulting in millions of deaths), the creation he loves most.
Of course you could argue the case of monotheism and they must be the same God, but in the context of the religions there are too many conflictions.

I agree!
What sets Christianity apart from all other religions including Catholicism and Islam, Christians worship Jesus as God and Savior no other!
Catholicism-
Includes praying to Mary and a host of other sub-deities i.e. Jesus plus...
Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name (Jesus) under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Muslims-
Deny that Jesus is God!
1 John 2: 22-23
22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

What are your thoughts?
The three Abrahamic religions all hail from the same..
Judaism, Christianity, Islam.
Short answer: Lots of thing in common. Some history shared as well.

Judaism copied from the Persians and other polytheistic sources, Christian from Judaism et al., Islam from Judaiism et al...
The Jews worshipped a local monotheised deity. Through the forced insertion of the Koran into the 'Abrahamic' picture, itself cobbled together from numerous sources, Aramaic, Persian, Jewish, Syriac, etc...one could suppose that Islam worhips the same god...

What about the concept of the trinity?
-
What about the concept of the trinity?
it goesd againt the uncertainity principle
an object cannot be in 2 different places at the same time..
if there is a god and he created the universe and he is a sentient being that wants us to aquire knowlodge he wouldn't confuse humans by going against the EXACT scientific principles he used to create the universe in the first place.

False, nice attempt and being intelligent tho.
You think God is bound by petty laws of physics?
God created something from nothing.

My belief is that God Jesus and the holy spirit are 3 seperate things.Protein is right. We were created in his image.Jesus is the firstborn of all creation.Holy spirit is active force.
