Title: Arnold Classic 96 (Lots of Pics)
Post by: bizzy on October 20, 2007, 12:36:59 AM
There's been alot of talk lately about how much better the 90's were for bodybuilding.
The 1996 AC was a stacked show with 4 previous winners of the title going for it again.
I got the DVD off of ebay and it was a good reminder at just how competitive that time
was. I think people forget how great Vince Taylor was at one year shy of 40.
Anyway, I took alot of screenshots from the DVD and thought it could add to the disscusions
of how BB has changed in the last 10 years. About the only thing that could excite me about
bodybuilding right now would be: See Wolf with 15 more pounds and keep the small waistline
or see Victor come in shredded like Coleman in 98.
Enjoy the pics....

2     Ken Wheeler (Flex)
3     Paul Dillett
4     Vince Taylor

Those are fantastic shots! As you said that shows a massive difference between bodybuilding now and ten years ago. Every single one of those pictures is mind blowing (in a good way)!  :o Thank you very much

the one's who claim bb in the 90's was and forever will be the sports epitome, take a quick jaunt over to ironage.com

20 years from now, you'll be the same bunch of old farts prattling on about the past and banning Alexxx from posting on your forum

After Jay complained that he was dq'd in the Mr. O in 01 for diuretics and was going to sue, that's when they stopped testing I believe.  I'm 99.9% sure.  They still look like crap because the slin.

They all look 10x better than what was onstage this year with the exception of Wolf who would have fit in well with that lineup.

I think it's awesome that Vince is still kicking around and seemingly healthy after years of juice.  I hope some of the older guys live a long life as it would show that moderate juice use is not detrimental.

I like when pros make up stuff when they say they only use 100mg a week or whatever.  ;D  Stuff that makes absolutely no scientific sense at all.

why is that bbers from the 90's look better then bbers now? And are the same size too? the IFBB has to make some serious changes, no one in those shots has a GH gut

Anthony has good shoulders and back though, I say Flex has him on legs Arms maybe and conditioning.

Melvin had a freakier taper than Flex, because Melvin is 5'8. FLex had better arms, although Melvin has a double biceps peak on one arm. Flex has better conditioning and Chest, although they both are weak in that area and had the same problem areas-glutes and hams,

Actually Kev was closer to the cmaera. It could have gone either way, and Flex was pissed as hell.  Flex wasn't as good as he was before in 1993 0r 1995. But Flex was fuller, I think this was when GH was starting to be used heavily....

WOW!!! Bodybuilding has gone backwards since then. Half those guys would have walked the Mr 'O this Year!!
Likewise, respect to Vince - He's determined to come back better than ever in 2008 if he can shake his back injury that hampered his 2007 Olympia.
