I was wondering why it was such a big deal that they could unscramble his face. Didn't he use the same or similar technology to scramble it in the first place? They are making out it was such a huge deal.

No it's not that simple.
-
wouldnt it be easier to have cut his face out of the image ala getbig member posting photos
-
or better yet film the whole thing in the reflection of a glass door...hahaha!!!
-
No it's not that simple.
Lol, it was that simple, he used a photoshop swirl to mask his face, all you had to do to unswirl was just swirl it back the other way, I watched the guy do it on TV.

No it appears that simple.
Fact is, an image manipulation algorithm was developed to have that ability. That was the hard part and hadn't been done before.

Not True
"Interpol unscrambled images of the suspect -- who had used standard Adobe Photoshop software to create a swirl over his face -- and released them to media outlets worldwide. Police say the man has been going around the world preying on young boys."

Huh? The pedophile used standard Photoshop to make the swirl.
Interpol used something different (their own manipulation algorithm).

yep. photoshop can't "unswirl" an image any more than you can "un-smudge" or "un-blur" it.
although honestly if i was going to hide my face i sure as hell wouldn't use swirl. that still leaves all the original elements dispersed in a regular pattern. if he'd just used MS paint and put a black blot over his face he'd still be home free.

Not true, people on photoshop forums even unswirled the image themseleves as a test, apparently he swirled the image twice, the 2nd time he picked a certain point to swirl at, which was the hardest part as it took alot of trial and error to find.

Evidence?
Fact is Interpol devloped their own algorithm to produce these results.
