As Ronnie states on prosource...
"Dude I'm gone be big all my life as big as possible. As far as doing another show, yes I'll be competing in like the Arnold and maybe some European shows. If I win the Arnold I may go for the Olympia again, maybe. That song you're talking about is by Scarface, its called Fame."
"Hope you enjoyed the Olympia, besides my first one it will go down as one of my most memorable Olympias. I mean those standing ovations are Priceless. Thats from the heart and I don't see none of the other guys getting them. Actually in my 17 years of bodybuilding, this is the only time I've seen something like this. I didn't win but seemed like better than a win with those ovations. I never got them after a win, thats for sure. With all that love shown, it really makes me want to come back and do it again but next time heavier....."
I hope Ronnie knows what hes doing..... 8)

maybe ronnie is a dumbass, after all . . . doesn't he know the reason he got the ovations was b/c people thought he was retiring?
-
Ronnie is not supposed to ever be under 285, and that is being conservative. He would be find at 287-292. Like Markus Ruhl, he does NOT look better smaller. His physique is so used to being so big, that he can't "streamline" as one would think would be ideal in theory. Although in 2005 he did manage to do it...

Let's be honest, seven years later and Cutler is at least three years away from looking like this:
And even that is "in theory". If Cutler could continually to improve, he could potentially look like that in three years, but honestly, he has maxed out!
If Coleman shows up next year the way he looked in 2006, I think he could make top three. At this point, and being 44 by then, it's tough to say how he will look. Other pros like Gary Strydom have managed to come back fresh looking at an advanced age, but that is after giving his body a break for many years. Some genetic freaks like Albert Beckles and Vince Taylor have also managed to look good at a more advanced age, but it's hard to determine exactly how Ronnie will respond after so many years of bodybuilding at his level.
Lastly, as for Coleman's standing ovation, that was only really present because it was a celebratory one to honour Ronnie for his years in bodybuilding. It's not as if he will get one every year that he competes from now on. He IS appreciated by the fans and I think the ovation helped him to fully understand that in a very profound away, but there is also something to knowing when to throw in the towel.
He can easily win other pro shows still up to and including the Ironman and possibly even the Arnold Classic depending on who is competing, but again, it's important to know when to throw in the towel. I say this as one of Ronnie's biggest fans.

Yes, he's right on track to die by 50, just as planned.

I know people who have abused drugs for many years and lived to an age older than that. It comes down to genetics. I'm not saying Ronnie will or will not live past 50, but we can never know for sure. Current pros = guinea pigs. We will see the full implications of juicing at the level basically starting now and into the future. In 2003, my friends and I speculated that in 5-15 years (2008-2018) we would be able to see what the long term health effects of this type of substance abuse would be. My grandfather is pushing 70 and has been an alcoholic for over 50 years, essentially starting in his late teenage years. I believe he will be 70 in May but I could be wrong. Some people just have very resilient DNA.

Oh brother....
I knew Ronnie was bullshitting about retiring.
The writing is on the wall, Ronnie. You've made your mark in this industry. Move on......enjoy life.

Matt I beg to differ Ronnie looked his absolute best at 250 pounds give or take !

Oh man that would rock... Ronnies Comeback I would love it.

It is a matter of opinion, although I can respect your point of view.
In my opinion Ronnie only lost about 5% of his sharpness and aesthetics but gained about 15% in sheer size! So to justify my point of view, his gains in size outweighed his loss in other areas, although I do agree he was more aesthetic at a lighter body weight, but his sheer dominance at 287 made him unbeatable! In my opinion, his form in 2003 could beat any bodybuilder ever.

LMFAO 5% ??? look at 04 V 98 thats a fuck of a lot more than 5% the size added was NOT quality pounds his balance & proportion suffered for it as well as his crispness & detail thats redundant .

So that paco bautista can finally say he beated ronnie.

I agree...I think Ronnie was the best bodybuilder ever! ;)
But please, if anyone knows him, tell him...don't come back! ;D
-
Oh man that would rock... Ronnies Comeback I would love it.
For it to be a comeback, he actually has to stop competing first.
-
If Taylor is still competeting at 53, why not Ronnie?
-
I doubt it's Ronnie writing at that site. Probably his sister or something.
-
If Taylor is still competeting at 53, why not Ronnie?
Well Vince is a great example how to mess a good carrier. He went and competed at masters many years and lost precious time and money and achieved nothing. He himself said that it was his biggest mistake and now he's back on juice at the age of 51 cause he can't pay the bills..
I love Ronnie and as a true fan I never want to see him compete. It was sad to see him compete at this years O. Sad to see that he was a shadow of his former self.. :(
-
"Hope you enjoyed the Olympia, besides my first one it will go down as one of my most memorable Olympias. I mean those standing ovations are Priceless. Thats from the heart and I don't see none of the other guys getting them.
that's because they thought you were retiring, dumbass. dorian got one in 1997, too. and, actually, gunter got one in 2002 despite getting 5th. remember his "thank you so much, your support means more to me than the placing" line? ::)
-
I think Ronnie MUST wait 1 whole year before he enters Olympia gain ("clean", and working with "light" weights and lots of cardio.....) .....he must give his body a rest. My opinion :)
Besides its fuckin Ronnie Coleman who knows what he'll bring.
-
It'll be good that Ronnie will probably do the Arnold, but i don't really think he should do the O anymore. There was a pretty big fuss made over this being Ronnie's final one, it would seem kind of weird if he just decided to come back. Still, if he feels he can come back and place relatively well, then all the power to him. You never know what Ronnie is capable of.

Ronnie doesen't learn that you can't win the Olympia in your mid forties, I guess. But why shouldn't he compete at the Olympia again? I mean, his last little bit of aura evaporated at this year's Olympia when he placed fourth, so it's not like he has an image to preserve... :-\

I agree, but on the positive side it does prove that he's genuinely into bodybuilding and really loves it (takes a humble man to come back and place around guys who couldn't touch you in your prime).

Yeah, but you can love bodybuilding in other ways that won't destroy your legacy. Competing is not the only way to love bodybuilding. You can become a judge - like Dorian did -, or become a spokesperson for the sport - like Arnold and Haney, etc. Frankly, competing after your prime and risking ruining your legacy is a stupid way to love bodybuilding for a Mr.Olympia.
SUCKMYMUSCLE

It's not true. He has not intentions of coming out of retirement.

That is true. I've known people who seemingly did everything right and they still died of a heart attack or cancer before they turned 50.
-
ronnies days of placing top 3 are over. most certainly by next year. he may win the arnold since heath probably wont do it. ronnies shown in 2006 and 7 that he cant get back to the old ronnie in condition, shape or symmetry. win the arnold, and let that be his swan song. no amount of trying will get him even top 2 at the o.
-
Well, I think Big Ronnie loves bodybuilding. He knows he'll have a tough time against those young and Hungry lions onstage these days, if his heart is still into bodybuilding,Why not competing?
-
If the guy loves competing ( even if he cant win ) then why shouldnt he??? Some people dont just enjoy things because theyre the best, if he wants to get up there just cos he enjoys it then good for him
-
Ronnie should not compete again, but should be paid a huge fee to guest pose ( in top shape ) at The Olympia and Arnold Classic.

Bodybuilder Translation: If I retire, I lose all of my income and ruin my chance to continue to collect $200K/year for sitting around the house watching 'Flava of Love' while eating BBQ Wings. So I'll announce my intent to compete in 2008, sign another contract, and then pull out with "injuries". But don't worry, I'll be back better than ever in 2009...hear that sponsors??
-
Most of the guys on the Olympia stage know they aren't going to win and still compete so why shouldn't Ronnie? Let the man do what he loves if he wants to do it.
-
its funny how few realize this

I know most people will hate to hear it, but i'm pretty sure Ronnie earns more than $200k a year. ::)

500K or twice that.

500K or twice that.
Tales of Delusion and Grandeur. He took a 100K paycut alone on the Mr. O. Ronnie is very lucky to be making 200K without working. Last time I checked, the Arlington PD doesn't pay guys to lift weights.

Ronnie's bsn deal only will make him 550k a year alone. Of course things might change in near future but he's still making a big buck.

The jig is up. His deal is over. Nobody's paying a has-been, on-his-way-out 4th place Olympia guy more than 150K, and IMO, that's too much. May as well just sign Lee Haney or Shawn Ray and use the old photos because no one wants to look like Ronnie anymore.

They can always call him 8-time Mr. Olympia and go with that ;) Ronnie's a guy who will not be forgotten and I think that he still is the biggest fan favourite. That just might bring a few bucks in his wallet. :)

Like I said...may as well sign Lee Haney. Actually, the best deal going now has to be Dennis Wolf. He needs to cash in now. Wolf has more value from here on in than Ronnie Coleman.
-
After this years decision why not compete? Their not judging it on physqiues.
Ronnie needs to sign with Muscletech. If he does he could win the Olympia again.
-
Ronnie, don't do it. You can't win with your fucked up lat and tricep. That's a fact.
If it was just an issue of not coming in conditioned, well that's different. Sure, make a go of it...but now? Pointless. Will he ever place in the money again? Probably not...not enough money to make it worth it.
It'll be sad to see him up there if only cause you know he's competing just cause he can. One things for sure...who cares about damn standing ovations? You're RONNIE COLEMAN for crying out loud.
-
I don't know where i stand on this. It would be cool to see Ronnie keep appearing on the stage, but its hard to tell if he will be able to improve on what he is left with.
Also, why should Ronnie tarnish his stellar competitive record. Yes, he may love competing, but no-one wants to see an 8xMr Olympia, start placing worse and worse. Maybe Ronnie should pack it up, consider his health and family. Up to him though.
-
Just another past-his-prime athlete who doesn't know when to quit. ::)
-
If he does decide to compete, the left lat and back definition has to come up because the judges will always throw that at him as a reason to place him down. Personally, I hope he calls it a day on stage and just stays in the industry on the business and promoting end. The body can only take so much before you start going backwards.
-
ronnie has already gone backwards. see: 2006.
