I feel ya and I see the same and more every single day from the moment I walk into the gym until I walk out and some days I get annoyed and other days I don't give a shit. My advice: fuck 'em. I hope they keep lifting with shit form because they'll never look better and those of us with good form and check the ego at the door can improve and continue to provide them with a bar to attempt to meet.
What's probably even better than seeing shit form is the guys with good form and who lift with dedication but NEVER, EVER work their legs out. There's one guy who comes in at the same time every day I am there and I swear he did shoulders like 3 times this week.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to detect some homoeroticism in this "guy's" post.
-
I like outlifting ego lifters using good form. It's fun to deflate egos.

Fuck, you should have seen this tool the other day....
Fucking doing 1/4 rep calf raises on the Smith Machine.....he piles on plates to capacity....then proceeds to look around and make sure everyone is watching....it's funny, cause the clueless in the gym think he's doing something impressive. ::)
Today, he was shadow boxing and shit, between his most draining 50 lb cable rows..... :-\
-
Too much people focus on weight alone while they could get much better gains if they do less weight with good form.

Most trainers are useless too.
My training partner does those 3/4 leg ext, "good morning" squats, "lat pulldown" tricep pushdowns and the ever so popular "upright row/deadlift/shrug" version of the bentover barbell rows. He never listens if I mention anything.
And most of the others in the gyms.. well lets just say Im waiting for spinal juice to spray everywhere.
-
let them bask in their illusions. if they knew how to train properly greek statues like us were everywhere.
-
Am i the only one who just ignores what people in the gym do? Yeah of course i notice how badly some people train, but screw them, let them learn the hard way.

I hear you bro...but it is too late in the game...abandon ship..ego lifters have taken over..
get an mp3 player with some ear bud headphones..in between sets just stare off into the yonder and focus on you, don't make eye contact with anyone.
also alot of them just don't know the proper routine..when I have "worked in" with a few people and on the few occasions that I have mentioned something about form they are usually appreciative and general ask for more info;
another favorite is the smith machine front shoulder press that turn into more of an incline bench press.

I am in my gym all day and I really take in everything that is happening there and here is my take. I don't think it's actually ego lifting, I honestly just think everyone is stupid. They just honestly bastardize every fucking exercise so bad it becomes another new exercise because they are just too lazy or don't give a fuck to learn how to do it right. The ego part might come into play because god forbid they should actually go up to another adult man and say "hey, i'm not sure that i'm doing this right, could you give me a hand?" That would too much a sign of weakness I guess. And god forbid I, as the owner of the gym, should dare correct anyone in the most polite and subtle way for fear of them taking it as an insult. I'm to the point now where I watch people workout wrong ALLL day and night and don't say a fucking word unless i'm asked for help (which rarely ever happens). I will step in if I see something really life threatening going on though.
Very interesting topic though.

I think thats a huge difference between bb and powerlifting too. Next to the obvious ones, a powerlifter will seek out others, sometimes driving hours just to have someone teach them how to squat or bench correctly.

Ego bench pressing earned me a seperated shoulder about 6 years ago...hasn't been right since.
-
Haha.... I train people part time and just am at aww of how dumb some noobs are. Knoxville865 I worked for the RUSH for over 2 years part time in PT, work NFC now. It amazes me at TN people, my god we must be in the FATTEST part of the southeast. ;D

First there is "ego lifting" but does this ego thing factor into other forms of recreation? Is there such thing as ego jogging? Ego bowling? Ego gardening?
-
What I can't stand is guys who do bench pressing "powerlifting style"? Look at most powerlifters and their chests really suck bad. I think powerlifters should use proper form and none of that ark and suit crap.

a powerlifter isnt concerned with having big pecs though, all he wants to do is take the weight down and press it up, what would be the point of "proper form" if it only reduces the amount he can press?
-
hey Alexxx what do you think of my old friend Jay's development, pretty good for a powerlifter i'd say.

He looks fantastic. Strong, low bodyfat and good muscle size. Some would consider that ideal.

That's whats it all about, camaraderie! If more lifters where like that today then we would have a nice thing going again.

Hey Squad, would this make you from the NY area? Dr Ken's neck of the woods?

I'm not sure, but by looking at some of the guys who post on this board, I bet you there are some who participate in "ego masturbating."

Most guys who shadow box between sets are very dangerous people. I would be careful if I were you and try to maybe get on this guy's good side.

Is that the famed Jay Rosciglione? (sp?)
-
let them do their worst. You go in the gym and see these big bellied fat guys doing nothing but training arms and chest. They should do cardio. But who cares. They paid their money and can do what they like, they make reasonable gym membership fees possible so just think about that.

you got it.

Well first of all that comment was meant to raise some heat. ;D
But still I think a bench press should be just that, a bench press and not a full body press.
When you get into the boxing ring and are starting to lose, do you start kicking the guy?
Rules are rules. Bench is for chest!

I see. Honestly, Im not looking to get into an argument here, but to think that a bp is strictly for chest is a bit of a narrow view. In bodybuilding, ill admit that it is for chest. In powerlifting however, it is about the most weight lifted while adhering to the rules specific to that federation. As for the shirts, I think saying theyre cheating is akin to saying a track star who wears cleats and runs on anything other than cinders is a cheater. You will find at elite levels in ANY sport taht there will be guys who can do ANYTHING they can to get an edge while staying within the rules, and benching in powerlifting is no different.

Hope to see you compete as well.

I don't mean to put anyone down. If it is accepted by the federation that more power to them. I am just more impressed when I see perfect form on the bench press with respectable weights. I guess I think like a bodybuilder.. building the muscle.. shaping the muscle.. etching in striations and the likes. With bodybuilding you have to make the exercise more difficult to achieve optimum results.
-
you don't even need to bench more than 135 for bb
