Title: protein powder cause heartburn?
Post by: Mad Nickels on November 06, 2007, 09:05:12 AM
I'm taking opt. nutrition whey.  2 scoops with water between meals.  never taken it before.

I'm getting awful heartburn.  I burp and it helps.  Is this normal?

I've never had any problem with it. However, those products affect people differently. A bunch of people
on here have complained about At Large Nutrition. They claim the protein powder gives them bad gas. I have no idea if this is
true or not and I'm not trying to disparage the product.

It's common for people to have a bit of stomach upset when first starting to take protein powders.   Awful heartburn shouldn't happen, but a bit of gas can be normal until your body adjusts.   Give it 4 or 5 days and see what happens.   Also, start with only a single scoop and work your way up.   30gms of protein as a supplement in one sitting is enough.

thanks.  i drank it, then laid down and watched tv for an hour.  I think maybe it slid back up my throat.

Then I did it again at 11.   drank some, laid down, and started to taste it again.

Ive had the splats for protein powder but never heart burn. The obvious answer is lactose intolerance, but if your taking it with water, that ain't happening. Are you gulping that stuff down b/c it tastes bad? is so, i wonder your sucking too much air. switch brands bro, there are a million of them out there.
