As most of you know, GetBig's own, ALex A, will be competing for the NPC National Title with the hope of turning Pro by winning his wt class. (Each wt class winner gets an IFBB "invite" in this event unlike the USA in which only the top two get invited.")
As usual the NPC Nationals will be a tough one for all the competitors, so here are a few photos of those competitors who I know personally who should have a good chance of getting that much sought after IFBB invite.
I'll start of here with a photo of Alex and a far from accurate comment because this comment is solely based on the photo as submitte to GetBig by none other than Alex himself.
I personally wish ALex all the best and hope that he takes his class because, to me, it looks like he trained and dieted to the ultimate.
Here are my Pro and Con remarks regarding Alex A based on this photo taken around Nov 4 (two weeks before the contest) ......
Con .... Did he pass his ideal condition? I think he did but I can't answer that with any accuracy because I've never met nor seen him in person, so only time will tell.
Pro .... Looks to be ripped to the ultimate and in the condition that I personally believe every winner (amateur or pro) should possess at contest time.
Haphazard and non-professional suggestion to win his class ..... Carb up a bit just prior to the contest in order to "thicken up" and maintain a maximum pump during the prejudging. And have a 4 to 8 ounce glass of red wine 12 minutes before hitting the prejudging dias to increase his vasculrity.
This will only seem valid if Alex places less than 1st in his class, which I hope does not happen. I'd rather be wrong than to see him take less than first.
Good luck once again, Alex!

Here's one of the NPC "favored sons" , Peter Putnam, who will have a good chance to win his class and the overall based on his "time in grade", recent placings, and All-American look that should be favorable for the NPC and "sport of bodybuilding". In addition, his wife is a well respected NPC/IFBB contender as well.
Pro - He is well liked within the NPC rank and file and has followed the normal path to knock on the doors of the IFBB even though his USA placing this year was somewhat controversial with many of the fans.
Con - Will he maintain his size and still be ripped in Texas? He's gotta look a bit better than his appearance in the Las Vegas to impress the judges and earn that IFBB invite in Tx.
-
Here's my pick for the overall - Brandon Curry.
Pro - Great symmetry and great muscle without the "bulk".
Con - Too new in the game and has yet to pay his dues.
Regardless - I think the overall will be his.
-
Sharper photo of Brandon Curry .....
-
I'm overlooking a good number of worthy contenders, so please feel free to add additional photos and comments about the top guys entering this toughest BB event of the year within the USA.
Good luck to eveyone entering this NPC event.
-
I really appreciate this! Thanks !
Nationals is such a huge show and things have been a bit quiet on the boards. But when its all said and done, there should be plenty of top notch competitors, some we know, some we have never heard of, some front runners and some sleepers.
Posting these pictures on my thread has motivated me down the stretch to bring the best I can.To not let anyone down, to prove i deserve it to do it again! I plan on bringing the best I can.
This show will not let down. Mark my words there will plenty of kick ass competitors in Dallas.
-
Can't wait for Texasbubba to chime in on this one! :)
Good luck to all the guys competing that post here.
-
umm.....Evan Centopani has to be considered
-
Yep, Centopani. I forgot that he was entering,
And here's another possible serious contender ... AD Cherry.
-
It may be interesting to note the vast difference between Brandon Curry and Alex in the above photos. Both are entirely different bodybuilders but great in their own respects. Many judges would have difficulty in deciding who would win over the other. What would be more persuasive? Thickness or shear "ripness"?
Good to see that each will be a different weight class (and each get the IFBB Pro invite), but they could both possibly face each other in the overall posedown. Who would you give it to?
-
The Nationals should be a great show. Many are going to Dallas to check it out, including myself now. See you there!
-
Two new wallpapers with Curry and Putnam at:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/wallpaperoftheweek.htm
Other contenders to watch this weekend:
Charles Dixon
Shaun Crump
Darrell Terrell
Evan Centopani
I'll be there photographing the show for FLEX magazine. Check out flexonline.com (http://flexonline.com) throughout the weekend for updates and photos.
-
Sure the "names" will be on stage, but don't forget some guys flying under the radar, a dark horse(S) who might surprise some people!
Wishing all the best in TX!
-
Watch for whatever EAST COAST BB who does well enough or wins this show to get a 'Q&A' for MD Magazine.
Good luck to female BB in the lightweight class...local ChiTown girl Kirsten Hyratak.
-
Ant, name a couple of "Dark Horses" who have come out of nowhere and won a major contest. There must be a few but at present I can't think of any.
Curry was definitely a dark horse (to me at least) at this past USA, but I'm having a difficult time recalling any others who managed to win the overall title, but Curry did come close.
Thanks
-
Found a couple great pics of E Centopani which I have to run through Photoshop to make them fit on here. Also there are good rumors going around about Jeff Long who, they say, could give Evan and others a run for their money at the Nationals.
I'm heading off to work so it will take me a while to post these photos so if someone can beat me to it, please GO FOR IT...... Photos of Evan and Jeff Long are appreciated if they can be posted here.
Lift, can you post photos of the guys you mentioned .......
Charles Dixon
Shaun Crump
Darrell Terrell
and how ab out Centopani and Jeff Long while you're at it.
Thanks, all. Thanks, Lift! S

Last year...Desmond Miller...
I know it will be a "name game" for a while, I like to see, after the "names" get called out, call out the
grainy-hard-symmetrical guy(s) and put him-them next to the "names" for some poses...
Hey this is Nationals..the best of the best will be on stage!
Lightheavy is the class people are talking about!
Who is Putnam? LOL
-
OK on Desmond. I still don't know who he is. Thanks, Ant. Any others?
Here's the Centopani pic......
Here's my personal feeling on his Dis-advantage.
"Too young and not enough time in grade." Looks to be a deserving winner if he takes it though and seems to have a good number of fans who would appreciate that outcome.
I tend to agree with you on the "call outs", but due to the time factor the judges will more than likely only call out those contestants who are giving them a difficult decision making time,
That's pretty easy to do if your rank your top five and then your bottom five and they your next top five and your next bottom five and only do the comparative call outs when you are having trouble deciding between those guys who are pretty damn close condition-wise.
Judging an amateur event is relatively easy compared to judging the pros. And I learned in an earlier life to never judge a contest by the photos. It just don't work.
-
I think conditioning should be awarded at this show, the best physique should win not the biggest name.
Striated glutes and a sucked in face will show who worked the hardest for this show.
-
I somewhat agree with ya, Mad, but the biggest name usually has the best physique. That's the reason he has the biggest name.
And the outcome never has been based on whom has worked the hardest, unless you have to use that criteria while judging two almost identical physiques.
It ain't all black and white by any means.
-
I think some Animal is going to show up and shock some ppl.....Evan will most likely take his class but im talking about the light heavies...If putnam comes in looking like he did at the last show hes gunna have some serious problems...some dark horse with a crazy back and striated glutes will take him out from behind and its lights out baby for him
-

I saw Evan about 4 weeks ago, his legs came up a lot! And was very hard and still has great size! He is a great guy and trains hard....
-
Evan Centopani for the overall. Brandon Curry for the HW. Charles Dixon for LHW (I think he is LHW?)
-
Lightheavy a lot of good guys, Putnam, Dixon, Auguste, Perry, Johnson and Mabry...class is stacked with quality!
-
Ant, I kind of foresee major boo'ing and complaints from the audiance when the lightheavYy results are announced - NO MATTER WHO WINS IT.
-
Charles Dixon should get it since he barely got beat by Stan. ;)
-
I will be in Big D that weekend but may not make it to my first nationals ever...I am going via a Cowboys travel package that includes getting Demarcus Ware's autograp. All I can say is GOOD lUCK to all competing in it....and to those that do not win their respective class??? See ya in Vegas Baby!!!!
-
Everyone in Modesto will be rooting for AD Cherry to get that pro card and take it home to Motown.

WHY?

hell yeah bring it back to the central valley AD!
i know ill see you at the fit shop sometime, ask austin about me...im the young white kid that is working on getting certified so i can train in the manteca shop...
-
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! the NPC is a much better show and MUCH better physics than IFBB, first off i bet a better % of competitor come in far better condition. second, small trim waist "which bodybuilding is about" you don't see competitors that have been juicing through the gills for decades. this will be a sick show!
-
Peter Putnam.
-
Ant, got only a brief couple of minutes to explain but the biggest reason why everyone may complain with the LtHvy results is that the LtHvy class usually has some of he best competitors and the toughest guys to judge against each other because the top 3 to 4 of them will be relatively similar physique wise. Any decision that the judges make will be "hardfelt" by the fans.
In the majority of cases, the light heavies and the heavies are the most difficult to judge and get the biggest reaction (pro and con) by the fans.
Needs more explanation but that's it in a nutshell.
In addition, there are a lot of guys who don't want or don't think that Putnam should win that class. Some feel that he is a "favored son" and does not deserve his placing in past contests. These same individuals will vioice their feelings loud and clear if Peter wins it - even if deservedly so.
-
May take a while but I'll do m best to post the photos of those guys mentioned as favorites for the nationals in this post .... Here's Charles Dixon, I believe
-
A D Cherry (Thanks to Ironman website for the photo)
-
Shaun'DaPumpCrump .... thanks to Shaun's website for this photo... And Bill Morrison who took this shot....
-
Darrell Terrell ...
-
Evan Centopani .... Thanks to John Balik and IronMan Magazine
Any other top contenders whom I am overlooking???
-
Evan will be so much better than last year, it wont even be funny, he should dominate ;D
-
Does anyone know if the list of competitors is up yet? If so, got a link? Thanks
-
Can someone post Evan's stats...... Age, Rank, Serial number, competitive weight, height, city, state, job status, etc.?
He looks darn tuff in that photo above.
-

-

mo-town and the surrouding area actually has a pretty good amount of serious bodybuilders.
-
yaa, all 5 ppl in modesto who care about bodybuilding...
Modesto has a large bobybuilding community. Its the home of NPC judges, national level competitors, and even pro mike mattarazzo.
-
Actually the Modesto area has always been very big in bodybuilding for a number of years. National competitors, National place winners, IFBB fitness pro, IFBB bodybuilding pro, figure national competitor, ect. At the recent NPC Sacramento the Modesto area cleaned up.
A.D., good luck......we all are rooting for you that this is your year !

Hey Issac, I want to go on record here and say that a new guy from Indiana named Micheal Nunn will win the super hvys and overall. I just saw him win the Ky Muscle NPC show and he has got to be the best overall guy I have seen win a regional show in 30 years. The guy has the mass, and cuts and some of the best lines, taper and shape since Flex Wheeler. His quads are like a young Ronnie Coleman and his pecs and back are incredible. His calfs look fine when flexed from the back, but lack some sweep when viewed from the front , his only weak spot.
Hard to say for sure how he lines up against the other massive freaks at the nationals, but I would be shocked if he didn't come in the top 5 . He has the goods to win the whole show and be a future Mr O.
-
Lots of awesome bodybuilders from up north!
And they put on some of the best shows. I love going up to see the Contra Costa, San Fran and Sac. The crowd is always so supportive of the competitors and there is just good hospitality when you are there. I think Steve O'brien, co promotor along with Jon Lindsay put on some great shows for the fans and treat the competitors very kindly. Next big show will be down in Los Angeles, promoted by Jon Lindsay, The Excaliber, an awesome show!
-
Howie, is this Mike Nunn? Only picture I could find of Mike Nunn on the net.
-
Any pics of Brandon Curry?
-
Curry pictures already posted earlier but here is one more taken at the USA in Las Vegas this past July.
My present call is between Brandon and Evan for the overall, but the best of luck to each and every contestant competing in this very tuff event.
Most interested in hearing how Alex A does on Saturday in Tx. Should definitely be the most "rip-ted-nest" guy on stage and in the entire state of Texas.
And BEYOND!
-
Brandon has my vote for Most Fuckable. :)
