Actually, that's a complete lie... they released the 2008 schedual and TOTAL PRIZE MONEY for every show considering there is about $300,000 for the Olympia is (rounding up) $900,000....
So between 80+ professional athletes that compete there is less than $1,000,000 to award them?
??? ::)

bbing is dying :'(
in a way its the athletes faults. if the money is truely there they should be getting a piece of it. the union was a step in the right direction but nobody seems to be following through with it. they need a non competitor for a representative to see that these changes are made

What's wrong with that? That's like $11,000 per Pro! With the expenses, it's closer to (-$40,000)/year, but look at the bright side -- they don't have to pay taxes!

Dying?
It died a long long time ago - sometime in the late 80's I would say.
-
It didn't die, IMO.
It solidified it's base. Fans are MORE dedicated today, but they're less of them.
Today, 20k people checked getbig to see what's new in the sport.
many more hit other forums all to follow bodybuilding.
Granted, more people saw it when it was on ESPN every thursday afternoon. But as far as dedication and FOLLOWING the sport... I"m guessing the numbers are fewer but far less casual. Most of us here can tell you an interesting fact about the top 10 finishers at the Olympia. I betch 90% of them will still follow the Olympia in 10 years. On the other hand, the fairweather ESPNers who just watch whatever is on, they haven't followed BBing in years.
So I think the sport isn't dying - instead of having a bigger, more casual fan base, it now has a smaller, yet more dedicated base.

I think Ron announced a year ago that he gets something like 18,000 unique IP hits daily. I'm sure that varies of course. BBing.com has volume of what, ten times that?
My point is that there are fewer fans, but they're a hell of a lot more dedicated than maybe catching "American Muscle" on ESPN. They spend their porn computer time reading about bodybuilding.

There are actually 200+ IFBB Pros (male). And more shows are getting cancelled too. Colorado is just the first to announce. They already pulled out of Europe.

Good thing you committed your new company to sponsoring IFBB shows. That added sponsorship money may help keep shows on the schedule.

A few got cancelled, a few got added...it's a real simple business strategy, If a particular show doesn't make a profit, it gets dropped...some places just dont cut it.

You ARE the laughs.....
Ditto! ;D

You mean like Denver? Gee... I seem to remember saying that very thing back when Shawn proposed having a show there. If I remember right, you were backing up your buddy Shawn saying "Denver is a great place for a bodybuilding show!" ::)
-
the only spot in denver for a show IS the airport, who wants to go there unless they have too
-
u wonder why bb shows are losing the attendance. u need only look at the last mr olympia. to stop the sport from losing more and more fans, u need to stop the blatant favouritism and bullshit judging. jay was big, but smooth as hell, hardly any seperation... ah, i could go on, but its not the point im trying to make.
what i mean is, change the judges around and change the judging criteria. dont tell them what to look for. do ur JOB for once, not the job that ur 'boss' tells u to do (i guess im talking to bob here or whoever runs the shop). fuck politics. anyone who is even remotely into the sport will not want a piece of a corrupt sport like this. u want fans? do ur job properly. u want them gone? keep awarding the title to someone who clearly doesn't deserve it. i expect more shows to be pulled next year as jay is given one last gift before he retires. then the circle continues with vic, as it's done to many mr olympias before him.
-
i can only speak for myself but i certainly dont come here to check out whats new in the "sport" ::)

You're right..and I did think it would be a better turnout than it was. Last years turnout was much better, but still fell short IMO....Chicago is the same, looks like it shoud be a great place for a show...never seen anything work there.
I think Atlanta, Arizona are two spots that should be looked at....

Chicago certainly seems to make a lot more sense than Devner. The only thing hurting a Chicago show is that the ASC serves basically the same area of the country.

No actually YOU are. ;D ;D ;D

nevermind the IFBB still makes 'their' athletes pay what $250 a year? it sucks that the more i learn about the IFBB, the more I learn on how disgraceful it is
