Title: Gunter looking healthy!
Post by: Matt C on November 13, 2007, 12:39:51 PM
And by looking healthy, I actually MEAN looking healthy.  That expression is one of the silliest things I read on this board.  Some pro retires and aside from being fat AND skinny, also looks completely unhealthy in the face and people chime in "so and so is looking healthy."

Then again, Gunter has always looked healthy.  What are his future plans yet?  He will be 38 in February and still does have time to succeed in bodybuilding.

Gunter should be happy. He was commenting backstage at the Olympia on the webcast, married to a wonderful Kim Lyons, who is one of the trainers on the television show, the Biggest Loser.  Gunter makes great money doing commercials, and has his Weider contract.  Also, a very nice house near the ocean in Los Angeles area.

I took those pics at the Olympia...

True!  But a lot of times when people on the boards say someone is looking healthy, they don't even look healthy facially.

;)....anyway, a good healthy looking face usually is a sign of good health, but not always.

I could see Gunter having high blood pressure and other related health effects after being on gas for so long.

He will be 38 in February and still does have time to succeed in bodybuilding.

At age 38, Gunther is actually peaking in terms of bodybuilding. For instance, Ronnie reached his absolute peak of muscle mass at the 2003 Olympia, when he was age 39 going on 40. Bodybuilding is unique among sports in the sense that a man's muscle fibers only reach their peak of thickness in his late thirties to age 40. Compare this to swimmers, who peak in their early twenties, or to sprinters, who peak in their mid to late twenties. Or even to distance runners, who peak in their late twenties to early thirties.

Muscle maturity, actually the peak for this is between 28 (onset) and 35-36 (decline) after that it starts going downhill.

Maybe so, but some bodybuilders have continued to improve past 40!

Vince Taylor, Toney Freeman, and Dave Pulcinella are all good examples.

Completely incorrect. Muscle maturity continues to increase all through life, until death. For instance, a man in his forties has more muscle maturity than a guy in his early thirties. Look at Ronnie at the 2005 Olympia, when he was 41, and you'lls `see that his muscles looked much harder and more mature than that of the other guys who were in their early to mid thirties. But I'm not talking about muscle maturity, but about muscle size. Muscle size peaks around ages 35 to 40 and then starts to decline, even though muscle maturity continues to increase until death.

True, although the reverse seemed to happen with Gaspari.

As they said, you had to be 40 to look like that and even at 40 you didn't look like that.  :)
