I need a good fat source to add to my protein shake I drink for breakfast. I usually mix whey protein, milk and a piece of fruit in a blender but I need to add some fat to it.
-
the only source of fat tis is not going to slow the digestion of your morning shake is MCT oils. all other sources will take about 2-3 hours to digest, and slow up the digestion of your fast acting whey and sugar to probably at least 45 mins. and im guessing the whole reason behind your morning shake is the quick digestion rate. so mct's would be the way to go. vpx makes a good one

a small amount of olive oil would be great, the MCT suggestion is good as well, just pick up some coconut oil as it is basically mostly lauric acid.
digestion will not slow that much, it will slow but you will still digest protein quickly, just in less amounts. there is a finite amount of enzymes so digestion will not be halted as such.
both of those fats are very good for your health. flavored fish oil is another good one.

Don't add fat to a whey shake. It will slow the absorbtion rate of the aminos adds, making it all take much longer.
-
Eat almonds. I eat them with every meal. Honey roasted ones are the shit. Don't worry about how fast you're absorbing, you'll be fine. The EFA's will be worth the offset. When your intake of protein is in the g/lb range, how fast and the type aren't nearly as significant.
-
Ya it wont hurt the effect of the protein by slowing the absorption. I see it as a good thing. Fish oils, natural peanut butter, almonds, olive oils, CLA, ect are all good choices. The key is to look for fats that are mostly unsaturated.

Heavy Whipping Cream.

There is evidence to support that liquid fats added to a meal do not change gastric emptying / absorption. The oil just sits on top. ie; kinda the oil & water theory. So add olive oil, flax oil, fish oil, even peanut butter, etc. Fats that are part of the food is what changes things. ie; fat in steak, fat in eggs, dairy, etc...

i would stay away from cla, but the other options are spot on for sure.

Uh, what?
The point of a shake, say after training is to get the nutrients into the system as fast as possible. Any other time, when it's a meal replacement, the idea is to slow absorbtion down...pretty basic really.
My vote goes to peanut butter, because I like it and it serves the purpose here quite well.

Don't knock it until you've tried it ;D
Vanilla protein powder (1 scoop ON)
cooked oatmeal (not hot of course) (about ~1/2 cup or less)
frozen strawberries (about 1/2 - 3/4 cup)
peanut butter (a little less than a tablespoon)
ice & water ~ blend to desired consistancy
-
You could always add some ground coconut or coconut flour to your shake.

Huh?
I actually cook a lot with coconut flour (very high in fiber) & use coconut oil when cooking & I replace butter with it sometimes. I've lost five pounds in the last four weeks. Not blaming the coconut but it hasn't hurt me.

flax oil if you don't consume a lot of caffeine. If you do it negates the chemical conversion in the body thus making it empty calories. Coconut oil and olive oil are good too.
If you go with flax I suggest Barleans brand. It tastes very good and is excellent quality

WHAT?
where are you getting this information. what chemical conversion, all fats are converted by the same enzymes.
