Title: Has MD ever had an "original" idea? (serious question)
Post by: Livewire on November 19, 2007, 05:33:01 PM
Just went on the MD boards (can't ban me forever, fools!) and theres a thread about Larry Pepe's move to the PBW group.  When someone mentioned it, Palumbo responds:

"We'll have a much bigger surprise than that..........Remember, we don't duplicate.......we originate!........."  D. Palumbo

When I read this, it got me thinking.  Has MD ever had an original (good) idea?

So let's go down the list:

1.  Bodybuilding.com revolutionizes the idea of a Bodybuidling mega-site with articles, videos, suppements, info, etc.  MD than tries to do the same.

2.  Now MD is trying to sell supps on their website (you guys are true pioneers)

3.  BB.com does the Fit Show, the first pro bodybuilding video series.  MD comes out with MDTV  (how original)

4.  Weider starts signing athletes years ago.  (MD starts doing the same)

5.  PBW Radio gets created.  Becomes popular.  And than MD comes out with No Bull Radio.

6.  And just when you think "wannabe md" is finished, they sign Shawn "Weider Discard" Ray.  Another MD original :)

7. And than we have MD's obsession with trying to defeat GetBig, the original message board.  They become so obsessed with GetBig that they don't allow their people to post here. LOL.  Sadder than Blechman's diary.

Keep up the good work MD.  Can't wait to see more of those original ideas.  True "Originators". :)

MD = MOSTLY DUPLICATES

well, they are original in the sense that their staff is comprised mostly of habitual offenders.

a mag run by the "furious felons" is pretty original.

The delicious irony here is Jumbo Palumbo speaking of originality.

"Remember, we don't duplicate.......we originate!........."

All they do is copy ideas.

I don't understand why guys are members of multiple message boards - I've only ever been Getbig through and through from the day I discovered this shit.

There's nothing original about them, but you have to admire the sweat they put into trying to build a better mousetrap.

So what if MD decides to jump on the bandwagon of supporting bodybuilding... they are doing a good job of it, NO?

No.  Trannies and fart jokes = not the image for the sport we want.

Of course, you're angling for a MD contract or coverage, aren't ya, Sarah Dunlap? ;)

I copy all of bodybuilding.com's great ideas that are feasible for me to copy.  It has brought my website a lot of success and turned it into a sort of mini BB.com.  Maybe 1-5% of the size and popularity.

100% correct.  I was told my partner that he copied our Muscle Mafia concept because we didn't want him involved and started Muscle Mob.  Our original line is "Once you Start, you can never leave"  Dave put something like "Once you join, you can never leave" or something like that.

I think there is a lot of originality at MD.  Its all hilarious, classless nonsense but hey, give them credit, they've built themselves a circus.

Well myself and a friend.  www.musclemafia.com (http://www.musclemafia.com)

I haven't been able to do much with it lately cause of a bigger project.  But we did just sign a deal with a distributor in Australia that will be distributing in there and New Zealand.  Been around for about 4 years or so.  It started off really good then he got doing something else and so did I.

So what if it is an originial idea so long as it is a good one?  Almost nothing in life is original.  Don't kid yourself into thinking that one of the billions upon billions of humans who have populated the earth didn't think of your "original" idea before you did.

I agree. Most of the MD bashers don't realize that through the income they generate they pay for a lot of the "muscle " we admire.

Good point, chris.  Dave Palumbo was pretty wrong when he claimed to be original.

"We'll have a much bigger surprise than that..........Remember, we don't duplicate.......we originate!........."  D. Palumbo

Good to see you tear MD a new asshole when they need it, Chris Mason.

Exactly.  For example, Isaac Newton as well as Gottfried Leibniz both discovered Calculus.

True.  But if either went on GetCalc.com and claimed to be original, they'd be full of shit.

Just as Mason pointed out that Palumbo is here.

Chris is right, of course, about Palumbo having no original ideas, but his comments about it would be more well-received if he wasn't such a hairy bastard!

Thinking of an idea is easy.  Doing something about it and bringing your idea to reality is the thing that's special.  Copying someone else's idea after they have brought it to reality is not original.
