Title: steroids inhibit insulin release?
Post by: rifat on November 20, 2007, 09:27:58 AM
I read several  years ago that one reason why steroids make you not only bigger and stronger but also harder is because they inhibit the release of insulin(more uptake of nutritients whitout insulin-less bodyfat!).
Anyone else ever heard this?

Theres typically warnings about them changing insulin requirements for diabetics in the prescribing info.
I think they act a bit like insulin, helping load the cells more.

Ive never seen them change blood glucose levels on any of my blood tests.

They swell muscle is the simple answer.

Depends on the steroid and the dosage. They can cause insulin resistance which will result in more insulin released. I have an insulin dependent friend who did testosterone and his insulin requirement went up - sensitivity to insulin went down.

Some steroids like nandrolone have been shown to improve glucose disposal.

I wonder why that stuff is so popular all of a sudden. It seems to be everywhere.
