I can't gain much of anything, fat or muscle.  And when I lose weight, I lose everything, fat and muscle.  I think it would take a pretty extreme diet for an ectomorph to gain 20 pounds of anything.

I dont see many guys around 5'7-9 190@10%, step back and compare yourself to the average Joe, you had to have gained the muscle sometime, so its just a mindset.

Was he supposed to be a twink or something? Maybe the role needed a skinny dude

He's 26, the role called for a 36yr old father, so he gained weight and grew a beard to make himself look older, when he arrived on set he was fired.

I appreciate the positive feedback.  Although the gains did come slow over many years.  I now wish to find the secret formula to breaking through plateaus.  ;D

Don't you think that gaining 20lbs for a movie role is something that you consult the director about?  Sounds like there's more to this story than he's telling.  The 20lbs story is just a way for him to save face about something else.

There are 2 versions, the one I told, and the other is that he was a complete ass on set and was fired, Mark Whalberg just took his role, this was only a couple of days ago.
