Chuck Liddell for example only gets a couple million per fight, but he also gets a percentage of PPV revenue. The UFC regularly earns in the low 9 figure range for each PPV. I've heard that he's taking home about 15 million per fight after the %. I wouldn't be surprised if Brock had a similar contract.

Note that these figures don’t include things like additional bonuses for fight of the night, knockout of the night, or submission of the night, not to mention insurance fees, licenses, etc.

You're a moron, UFC isn't worth anything near a billion dollars (maybe in 20 years ::)). Sad thing is champion boxers still rake in millions per fight without PPV cuts but you're champs aren't even getting close to a million per fight. Still think UFC is the premier fighting org.?

not commenting on the moron comment, but televised boxing matches still make more. the HBO fighters on boxing after dark make 250-500k and most of them aren't even marquee fighters

UFC chief financial officer John Mulkey outlined the new contract Couture signed in January, after ending an 11-month retirement. The deal, which included an exclusive promotional rights agreement, called for a signing bonus of US$500,000.

Half the bonus was to be paid upon signing of the contract and half after his first bout - UFC 68 on March 3 when he defeated Tim Sylvia to win the heavyweight title.

Couture cashed the first bonus cheque on Jan. 30, according to the UFC.

Not counting the bonus, Mulkey said Couture made US$1.186 million for UFC 68. That included a US$250,000 basic purse plus a US$936,00 slice of the pay-per-view revenue, based upon the 534,000 buys for the fight.

Some US$924,000 of that pay-per-view cut has been delivered to Couture via five separate cheques through Oct. 12.

For UFC 74 on Aug. 25 on Las Vegas, when he defeated Gabriel Gonzaga, Couture made another US$250,000 purse plus a US$35,000 discretionary bonus for fight of the night. With some 485,000 pay-per-view buys, the card garnered Couture another US$787,000.

His total compensation for UFC 74 was US$1.072 million, according to the UFC. Couture said he did not get a bonus after that fight, as he usually did.

But bet on this: Couture will be in a suit in a court room before he's wearing board shorts preparing to fight Fedor Emelianenko any time soon.

Couture's resignation as UFC heavyweight champion and subsequent decision to sever all ties with the company dominated the reader response this week.

But before we get a sampling of what you had to say, here's a quick take on some of the key points in the case

Have no doubt that Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks' owner, would-be Chicago Cubs owner and the fledgling MMA promoter, is somehow involved in the M-1 Mix Fight promotion that allegedly signed Emelianenko to a multi-million dollar contract last week. Cuban declined comment via e-mail when asked whether he is part of M-1.

Non-UFC sources say that the contract Couture negotiated and signed before his comeback fight against Tim Sylvia in March is for four fights and between $13 million and $15 million, which puts him behind only Chuck Liddell, at four fights and $17 million, in the UFC salary pecking order. Those numbers are believed to include percentages of pay-per-view money.

Couture believes he can be a free agent after sitting out nine months, which would mean he figures he can fight Emelianenko sometime in late spring or early summer of 2008.
