i do both
but im working to get a stronger belly so i can take more hits to it in contact sports, im not just into the look of it, if i were i might've trained it less and differently

hehe i got the simple one with no possibility to adjust resistance so it's just one way to use it

I have not directly trained my abs for years and I still have visible abs most of the year.
You use your abs for everything any way.

I just use bodyweight. I do one set of 50 reps around 10:30:pm just before going to bed every night

as for me, I do them 3-4 times per week, twice heavy, twice lighter.

do some of both. Your abs need progressive resistance just like any other body part.
