It's incredibly ironic that the first actress cast in next year's G.I. Joe movie is British. After all, the '80s toys from Hasbro were known by their "Real American Hero" tag line.
According to Variety, actress Sienna Miller has been cast for the female lead. While the article doesn't mention the character by name, it does offer up this description:
a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage
I'm thinking it's none other than Scarlett.
Paramount has also slotted the movie for a Aug. 7, 2009 theatrical release.
Stephen Sommers is directing the G.I. Joe movie.

No offense to Demi - she did pull off G.I. Jane, but I think she’s a bit too far past her prime to play a role like that now.

Did you catch her in 'Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle' ?
Most women Demi's age wouldn't do well in that role, but I think Demi moore could if she had to.

You’re right that it is the studio’s decision. And part of their decision making process is based on the audiences’.
You and I can look past her age, but sadly, a lot of other people these days may not see her as much more than a MILF, cougar, etc.
And THAT is where I disagree with the notion that she would do well in the part.
From a physical and intellectual standpoint, she certainly could & would.
But would she draw money in that role?
Probably not as much as a younger starlet whom general audiences would prefer to see.
And that is the only reason I feel she would not do AS well in the role.
So what are your (everyone’s) picks for the other characters?

Well, I'm not sure what roles are being cast in that film, but there are very few bankable female action stars.
