Props to Team Flex on the signings and to the competitors getting the contracts. Solid additions to their roster.
CONTRACT HIGH
Written by: Team Flex
Adding to a long tradition of athletes that include some of the top competitors in the history of bodybuilding, Weider Publications recently signed five top athletes to exclusive publishing contracts. Headlining the list are three top IFBB pros and the two top amateurs in the NPC.
MELVIN ANTHONY: Anthony is coming off two consecutive sixth-place finishes the Olympia, and will look to continue his climb up the competitive ladder at the Arnold Classic in March. Never one to be at a loss for words, the gregarious 2004 Night of Champions winner stands as the current ideal of aesthetics and symmetry in the IFBB ranks — not to mention he’s a top-notch entertainer with posing routines that routinely bring the house down.
TONEY FREEMAN: Along with Anthony, Olympia hopeful Freeman adds prestige to a Weider lineup that already includes a current (Jay Cutler) and former (Ronnie Coleman) Sandow winner. Freeman announced his presence as a top-tier competitor with three professional wins over the last two years, including two in a row at the Ironman Pro and Sacramento Pro in early 2007. He followed that up with a third-place finish at the 2007 Arnold Classic before falling out of the top 10 (13th) at last year’s Olympia, in large part because of an illness he suffered in the weeks leading up to the contest. No matter, the X-Man is vows to bounce back stronger than ever in 2008.
BRANDON CURRY: The 24-year-old Curry finished second in the heavyweight division at both the 2007 NPC-USA Championships and the 2007 NPC Nationals, setting him up as the man to beat in the heavy class heading into the 2008 season. Based on his impressive physique and goal-oriented work ethic, a coveted IFBB pro card may soon be his as he looks toward Las Vegas, and the ’08 USA title.
PETER PUTNAM & JESSICA PAXSON-PUTNAM: For the first time in Weider history, a married couple has been signed, something the Putnams are very proud of. That’s not to say they’re both not strong candidates in their own right. Peter, like Curry, earned his place among the top competitors in the NPC with impressive showings in the two biggest amateur contests of the year, the 2007 USA Bodybuilding Championships in July and the NPC Nationals in November. Peter narrowly missed out on earning his pro card at both shows, winning the light-heavyweight class at the USAs before placing second in the light heavies at the Nationals. Jessica, who appeared on the cover of the 2007 FLEX swimsuit issue, is one of top competitors in the figure ranks — she earned her pro card by winning her class at the 2005 Junior Nationals and has placed in the top five in three of her four professional contests, including a win at the 2006 New York Pro Figure show.
To all five we say, welcome aboard.

Is melvin signed with muscletech too?
He's in a good spot to take the crown if he comes in 06 shape and Cutler fcks up again.
-
Melvin is with MuscleTech.
I believe Toney is no longer with VPX.
Peter is with Met-RX
Jessica is with Optimum
Brandon is with BSN.
-
I bet Romano and Flex Wheeler are dirty for not being able to sign Brandon Curry.

MD is running out of people fast

MD is running out of people fast
Why would you say that?
FLEX is signing the pros of the future and current top contenders while MD signs retired guys who argue with each other.

Who are these Putnam people? The short third tier amateur with a "stuck in the 80's" look?
::)

Are you talking about more exclusive message board contracts?

Congrats to Toney and Melvin for getting out of Mascara Development. I really felt bad for both guys having to deal with Blechman/Palumbo's constant nagging to "post on the boards" and "come on the show". I mean, Dave was bugging the shit out of me to "post on the boards" and who the fuck am I!! You can just imagine how incessant it must've been to have Palumbo PM'ing, IM'ing, texting, and calling them all the time, even dropping the occasional, "Melvin, Steve's gonna be pissed if you don't come on the show tonight..." Oh yeah, "If you post on Getbig.com, Steve will cancel your contract!"
MD Spin: We decided to cut ties with Melvin Anthony and Toney Freeman after their disappointing 2007 Olympia performances and instead will focus on bringing you more of next generation superstars like Kai "Grapefruit" Greene, Desmond "40 inch Waste" Miller, and Michael "Unnatural" Lockett.
Psssst.....Mascara Mafia...Victor is the next to go!! Congrats in advance on losing 3/4 of the 2006 Olympia top 7.
Melvin, PM me!

say what you want about blechman and the md boards...but MD kicks the shit out of flex. flex is the gayest, most worthless magazine i have ever opened up. the articles are so obviously ghost written its not even funny, the pictures are all faggish, and the weights are fake(no big deal, except they put on outlandish amounts of fake weight).. fucking quer magazine im telling you.
id rather read md any day of the week.

Show me an article that's not ghost-written. You really think Branch Warren and Dexter Jackson are up at night, cramming to come up with a new article about their nutrition and training? I do like Valentino's rant though.

i think its good that both magazines are different. Why the hell would we want 2 of the same mags. They both spend a lot of time and money to cover bodybuilding. No need to hate.

The thing is, there are people who seldom read message boards and who rarely - if ever - post on them.
I like to call these folks 'the Lucky Ones'.

Melvin Anthony is not coming off 2 consecutive 6th places at the Olympia, he placed 5th in 2006 and 6th this year.
