how did it get so gay?
that logo was synonymous with that gym...
it would be like Cadillac re-designing their crest...it would just lose it's appeal...

i meant logo...and their whole concept and style now.
this is no longer a gym linked to the golden days of bodybuilding...
but just a regular corporate brand gym for 9-5 office workers
and the average joe's...a spinning class here and there...lots of swiss-ball training...know-it-all 130lb personal trainers.
All with a clean-cut image, and grunt-free weight room where the dumbells
stop at 60lbs.
makes me sick. :-X

no, it was bought out by a corporation, Planet Fitness, where no grunting is allowed.
nothing ever stays the same

Gold's was bought out by a corporation years ago, Brockway Moran & Partners bought the company in 1999, then sold it to TRT Holdings, owner of Omni hotels, in 2004. (it's in that article I linked to above) There are rumors that TRT wants to not renew the lease on Gold's Venice and move to a smaller (and cheaper) building away from the beach.

Gyms have now gone to "fitness". Bodybuilders need love too. :(

Did you say Bally's?
-
It's obvious that BB-folks will have to resort to smaller more open-minded gyms or their basement.

The point of any business is to make money for the owner/shareholders. To make money in the fitness business, clubs have to appeal to the greatest number of people. And bodybuilders and power lifters and "hardcore" types are not a large market segment. The largest market segment are the 9-5 office workers and regular people who want to lift a little and do a little cardio, not break any records.

That's why I said bodybuilders need love too.
Actually, their love came and went in the 70's. :(

if this is true i think it would be awesome for the bodybuilding community/industry as a whole to chip in together and purchase golds venice in its entirety.
thinkign about it...it would be a really good investment idea if someone could sell shares/bonds that would be guaranteed back to the buyers of the bonds if th bonds didnt sell enough to reach the purchase price of the gym, but if they idnt reach the purchase price, then bonds/share holders would have free membership and profit sharing; or they could opt to sell them back to the owner once the owner releases them(which would be once revenue has risen high enough to buy back the bonds)..
-
there is no way golds venice can go...someone with money who gives a damn about bodybuilding will do something. the day golds venice is gone will be the day bodybuilding is gone. and no bodybuilding is not gone right now. it will never be mainstream, always a sub culture, which is the way it should be. some things are meant to stay under the radar and bb is one of those things.

Digital Domain?
Yup.

Other than Bob Paris ... who ?

"Yup."
:D
Do you guys still get the $375.00 per year corp rate?
-
yeah...I go to World's and they haven't switched yet, but if they do I won't renew
Who are you trying to kid, Medfat? You have a membership, but you go for like a week, then quit for a few months, then go for another couple weeks, then quit again for months.
Bally's and Planet Fitness were made with people like you in mind. ::)
-
Gotta love Arnold shooting Joe Gold the Rabbit ears here ;D

Yea, we still have that discount. I chose the monthly plan, it's a little more at $34.99 a month, but I didn't have to commit to a full year. I'm not a fan of contracts so it fit better for me.
