Title: What is your FAVORITE Christmas song?
Post by: Blockhead on December 01, 2007, 10:37:10 AM

TheBlock has to go with 'So This Is Christmas...'   So many different versions of it. I like Melissa Ethridges' version.

Today I'm going with "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence", which is a David Bowie soundtrack.

but tomorrow I'll change my mind.

Can we do a thread with songs on it?  Can you post them?  Unfortunately I am no longer able to do so.  Before my iMac crashed last time, I was able to move songs from my iTunes to here and they'd come up in a blue link for you, but I can't do that any more.

can you?

You must please then attempt to get into it.  It's just another big party as far as I'm concerned and I want to hear the best music.

Perhaps we ought start a thread about how to get into it.  My first suggestion would be to leave it till December, which I've done.  I can't bear the fact that they start selling overpriced shit and doing tinsel and carols in November.

The best option is to give in now and just laugh about it.

Or, like myself, have no friends or family.
Eat very little.  Work hard.  Christmas sorted.

I just downloaded a version of Little Drummer Boy which morphs into Peace on Earth, with Bing Crosby and a cast of thousands including David Bowie.  It was a hit 10-20 years ago...

I can't post the blue link thing, my Mac won't do that since I last upgraded it.  (Possibly it's a copyright issue, whatever, i obviously don't understand technology terribly well.

Anyways, today's Favourite Christmas song is:

You can't always get what you want

Rolling Stones, November 1968, released on the Let It Bleed album in 1969...

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" Lyrics
 » Rolling Stones

[chorus]
I saw her today at a reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you find
You get what you need

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need

Oh yeah, hey hey hey, oh...

And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
Sing it to me now...

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
Oh baby, yeah, yeah!

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him

You can't always get what you want, no!
You can't always get what you want (tell ya baby)
You can't always get what you want (no)
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
Oh yes! Woo!

You get what you need--yeah, oh baby!
Oh yeah!

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

You can't always get what you want (no, no baby)
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need, ah yes...

It'll take 7 minutes of your life to listen to it...
