Does look like a good card if it holds up, and depending on who they match up the TBA guys with..

Looks good!
Hope they bring in Couture to fight fedor.

Not by NYE, Couture's arm still isn't fully healed yet. There is a better chance of him fighting Josh Barnett than Couture, which dosen't say much. The card is sick reguardless of who Fedor fights and I hope it will be available on American PPV (I doubt it).

A press conference was held on Thursday to announce two more official fights for the "Yarennoka" show on New Year's Eve in Saitama, Japan.
The long-rumored bout between universally ranked number one Heavyweight mixed-martial artist Fedor Emelianenko and K-1 kickboxer Hong-Man Choi is now confirmed.
You can also officially pencil in Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Kazuo Misaki for the stacked-New Year's Eve fight card.
With that now known, here's a look at the updated OFFICIAL fight card:
-Fedor Emelianenko vs. Hong-Man Choi
-Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
-Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Luiz Azeredo
-Gesias Calvancanti vs. Shinya Aoki
-Hayato Sakurai vs. Hidehiko Hasegawa
-Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Kazuo Misaki
Fighters still rumored to be added to the card include: Ricardo Arona, Aleksander Emelianenko and Murilo Bustamante.

I'm not impressed.
1. Fedor (an overrated #1) is fighting a circus freak. Dana and the UFC would get absolutely PUMMELED by the media if they matched up a champion against their worst fighter, much less a guy who couldn't even go 3 rounds with Cabbage.
2. Arona (an overrated #9) just got completely obliterated in 2 minutes by UFC newcomer Sokoudjou in just his 5th pro fight!!! Soko is 4-1 and before shocking Nogueira and Arona, he was KAYOED by someone named Glover Texeira. Imagine if Floyd Mayweather got clowned by a kid with 4 fights under his belt...he'd be the laughingstock of the boxing world.
3. Melendez (an overrated #3) is undefeated but hasn't knocked anyone out in 2 years and his most impressive wins are a bullshit split decision victory over Clay Guida last year and a decision win over Kawajiri. Hardly the stuff of legends. He'd be lucky to beat anyone in the UFC Lightweight top eight, including Penn, Stevenson, Sherk, Florian, Huerta, Guida, Edgar, or Griffin.
4. Is Mark Hunt a guy I'd pay to see? No.
5. With corruption involving the Yakuza and Russian Mob, I wouldn't be so sure the fight results haven't already been pre-determined.
I'm not saying Lidell-Silva is my idea of a dream fight, but I don't see anything on this card that has me drooling...

I'm startin to get the impression you'd bitch about a free lunch !
It's a card I'd definetly pay to see considering the alternatives lately (although I am kind of lookin forward to seeing the liddell silva card)

who do you think is number 1 then, couture?
so Sokoudjou is just a scam? he beat minotouro and arona just by accident? I think Arona is better than him BUT he did underestimated the guy that fight and paid the price for it

While I will agree some good matchups,,I'll be watching
Your Anti UFC remarks are a joke, did you make your rankings up ?
Before any Japanese, Korean fighter gets ranked , let him fight some top UFC fighters
cause whenever they come over, they look like sh*t
AND usually are BORING fights
Like Special Ed said , let these "So called top ranked Lightweights" fight
Sherk , Huerta, Florian, Penn, Faber, Gurgel
and the Fedor fight is a complete joke and probably fixed

Most of the lightweights on this card would wreck Florian, Gurgel would have his ass handed to him by ALL of the lightweights on this card and Faber is a featherweight. I hope you don't consider Gurgel a "top UFC fighter", Imanari ruined his knee and his career.

How about Stevenson? Would you put him with the top guys?

I didn't make these rankings up dipshit. I would type out some long winded response but Chute just completely embarrassed you in 5 lines. Do me a favor UFC fanboy, shut the fuck up and observe what a real card looks like. Huerta? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Proof that 90% posting on this board know nothing further than what they see on TUF.
Why don't some of these top UFC fighters go over to Japan? The ones that have usually end up getting wrecked.

more the opposite you dunce
i watch more than TUF...
so did you mean like when
mediocre Nick Diaz goes to Pride and beats Japans top pound for pound fighter in Gomi ??
dont hate kid, its just seems to be the way it goes with a few exceptions...Spider silva, Rampage
whenever these so called "top ranked" foreign fighters or fighters whom have earned their "rep" outside of UFC , decide to come to the UFC
they get their ass kicked
OVER RATED
i think thats the word i was lookin for

He is fighting for a title, but he's barely cracking the top ten IMO, Penn will take him off the list for a while after he smokes Joe.
-
I didn't bother reading your meltdown Bgfnscoob. It's obvious that you're wrapped up in the UFC and haven't watched much of anything.
KFLO FOR LIFE!!!!!
Man, you're a moron.
By the way, what happened to Chucky L when he went over to Japan in his prime? Could barely get past the first round.
