Title: Hearing Impaired Man Tased by Police
Post by: Hugo Chavez on December 06, 2007, 11:43:08 PM
Donnell Williams had just gotten out of the bath tub, wearing only a towel around his waist, when he turned the corner to see guns pointing right at him.

"I ain't never been so scared," says Williams.

Police forced entry into Williams home while responding to a shooting, but it turned out to be a false call.  They had no idea at the time the call wasn't real and that Williams is hearing impaired.  Without his hearing aid he is basically deaf.

"I kept going to my ear yelling that I was scared.  I can't hear!  I can't hear!"

Officers were worried about their own safety because at the time it appeared Williams was refusing to obey their commands to show his hands.  That's when they shot him with a Taser.

Gee, I guess he must have been packing a huge weapon under his towel!  ::)

Looks like it's starting, ...the gestapo bursting into private residences and shooting.

...but not to worry ...there's nothing to worry about if you're not doing anything wrong right? ::)

Tonymctones, the man was naked! How much more vulnerable could he be? {LOL}
"What if he charges you?" Bwahaha. That cop must have not trusted his partner. If he charges you... fine, light his ass up, but you don't taze a naked man based on the possiblity he might charge you? Besides, if the story is true, he was waving his hands around saying "I can't hear" How could he not show his hands while waving them in the air... NAKED?!

What is wrong with that cop that he couldn't tell the guy was hearing impaired? Sheesh, ...even I can tell that simply by hearing a person's speech. The hearing impaired don't pronounce things the same way normal hearing people do, ...not even Marlee Matlin, and heaven knows she's probably had more speech therapy than most hearing impaired people.

ps: One only knows to "assume the position" if one has been through the routine before to know what the position is. Personally, if someone with a gun bursts into my house and I'm standing there naked, ...spreading eagle is the last thing I'm gonna do.

I hope he sues and gets a big settlement.

im sorry i havent read the whole thing and dont intend to, the police dont just bust in and point guns at you the police are yelling the entire time "POLICE" but it is apparent that you've never been through anything like this b/c when it happens there is so much yelling and screaming going on the cops probably didnt even hear the guy they werent having a conversation the cops were giving commands, commands he wasnt following...ok so the guy is deaf, how the hell are they supposed to know that are they supposed to be signing while clearing the house potentially getting a gunshot in the face turning every corner (i know theres some nut out there saying descrimination against the deaf and i hope your not it) the fact is when a police officer points a gun at you the least offensive thing that can be done is to get on the ground, ok the odds of this guy charging one of the cops and doing harm are slim and none but if you wait for that to happen theres the possibility of him getting the gun away or the gun going off and hitting a cop...its called being proactive...like I said if its an option between me and you im going to do everything I can to make sure that its not me getting hurt

If they would have waited and he would have charged and they shot him you and alot of other people would be saying they should have tased him..come on be reasonable

p.s he wouldnt get squat in a settlement except maybe medical expenses and thats all he deserves...im sorry but these guys are out there doing a hard job with most of the politically correct society rooting against them or at least waiting to jump all over them when the "screw up"

Most of society has a screwed up mind set Not wanting cops around until they need them and then they bitch about them taking so long

The simple fact of the matter is the cops told him to do something and he didnt do it...how were they supposed to know he was deaf trust me in a situation like this your not interested in what this guy has to say all your trying to do is subdue a possible threat
Dont listen to the cops = bad shit happens

Im not saying i dont feel sorry for this guy and that its not crappy that this happend to him, all im doing is trying to show you why the police acted like they did
If you stop and think about it from their side you would understand why they responded the way that they did

It sounds like you would rather see a police officer die than be proactive in dealing with a situation

I was going to make some troll-like comment about him being called "Donnell" and how he had probably done something in the past to warrant the tasering, but then I thought... "Hey, Nordic, you are better than that".

So I didn't bother in the end.

No, It reminds too much me of what a horrid racist I had become.

If you like, you can use your Mod-powers to get Ron to delete the account.

It's true, I am now a changed man.

It may sound a bit cheesy, but my recent trip to India has really changed my outlook on people.

I don't get it.  Your boss was from India right?  I didn't think you had a previous issue with them?  Who did you become racist against?

No, I've never had a problem with Sikhs, but I was prejudiced towards Muslims (I may have mentioned my dislike once or twice ;D)and to a lesser extent, blacks.

I recently visited Assam, and the kindness and hospitality we were shown by the Muslims there has really altered my world view.

But this is where I'm confused.  You would retort that muslim isn't a race.  So it's the race of the muslim that you were feeling hate for?

See, If I was really Nordic I would be able to dodge these traps you are setting, Berserker.

But I'm not!

And with that I bid you good afternoon, as I'm going to the pub.
