Before we were attacked and entered WWII, we halted sales of oil and other resources to Japan in an effort to cripple them in battling the Allied powers.

Was this an act of war?

It was an act of economic war to slow down their advances in China.  We weren't at war with them yet and neither was Britain.

we basically put their backs against the wall, yes, but i still cannot understand why they thought they could attack the united states and not get crushed. we are not getting the whole picture
