Bodybuilding.com has been declared one of the top 100 Internet retail sites in the world in this month's Internet Retailer magazine. The "Hot 100 Retail Web Sites" were chosen based on striking and effective site designs, site search functionality, risk-taking in new technologies, and setting trends in the Internet retailing industry.
Boise, ID (PRWEB) December 8, 2007 -- Bodybuilding.com has been declared one of the top 100 Internet retail sites in the world in this month's Internet Retailer magazine. The "Hot 100 Retail Web Sites" were chosen based on striking and effective site designs, site search functionality, risk-taking in new technologies, and setting trends in the Internet retailing industry.
Bodybuilding.com is recognized as being a prime example of a market- leading e-tailer. They implement the latest Internet concepts and tools to significantly enhance the web experience, with the goal of going beyond just satisfaction and support of customers.
"We are building something that is not just based on making money," says Ryan DeLuca, CEO of the health and fitness products e-tailer. "Everything we add to our site is based on helping visitors reach their goals. Helping our visitors stick to their programs and reach their goals will ultimately lead to much higher revenue, a much more valuable brand based on emotional connections, and more profitability based on increased customer loyalty."
Not only are they a top Internet Retailer, they are the social and information hub for the bodybuilding and fitness community. The site offers 20,000 pages of content (from industry experts to your average consumer) and an online forum (ranked 34th largest on forum tracker Big Boards) where 800,000+ health-minded enthusiasts have posted 19 million messages over the past five years. They also produce more than 20 educational online video series and run a social network called BodySpace that has over 125,000 members.
"There is no doubt our community and social networking offerings are making a big difference for sales and conversion," DeLuca says. "Since we added BodySpace, our average order size is up nearly $10 to $92.41, and our conversion rate is 8%, up from 7% a year ago. That one percentage point is huge."
The e-tailer plans on further intensifying the social aspects of the site in 2008. "It won't just be 'Here's the product you should buy,' but 'Here are BodySpace members you should know and content you should read' based on what a customer's needs and goals are," projects DeLuca. "We've just launched a workout tracker so people can follow each other's progress. You can show your friends online what you're doing, and people can have virtual workout partners. The main point is to keep people motivated and excited about working out."
All this site investment is translating into major sales growth.
Bodybuilding.com is projected to hit $90 million in 2007, and 2008 looks even better with a projected $122 million heading their way.

Not surprising at all.
Ryan Deluca's type of intelligence + money = the greatest success imaginable. Once a guy like him has a million dollars, he is unstoppable. He just has the type of brain for business. I could foresee him in Bill Gates' position eventually.
-
and Bob Chick has access (at least claims) to anyone's credit card info, who bought anything from bb.com

Now see, one could argue that Squadfather does the exact same thing for Getbig.

Really? Please post where that was said...
-
so what. nasser's website selling used clothes has been ranked top 10 for years
-
It's funny that Ryan makes more off bodybuilding and contributes more to bodybuilding than any bodybuilder.
Intelligence + money = lots of money.
Do you actually buy supplements? Certainly doesn't appear so...Do you buy from BB.com? I can Look it up very easily...
What does this mean exactly? Bob has access to the customer database?

haha, it's true I don't. I never said that Bob can see the CC info, but I have no clue why he would even need access to any of the behind the scenes financial info.

Ryan DeLuca turned 30 today. His wife had a surprise birthday party for him on Friday night where lots of industry people were in attendance. Ryan received his birthday present at the party... a custom Bodybuilding.com Orange County Chopper.
Many more great things are in store for 2008 at bodybuilding.com.

Well, what does this mean exactly?
Seems to be a mental block here, son...what does it say?
What it meant is exactly what it says....240 was claiming to order supps from us, I questioned it, and said I could look the info up.....seems pretty clear cut to me....

So you have access to the customer database for some reason. Back to my original question - why would that be? You'd think a company as big as BB.com would have specific people in charge of specific areas of the operation of the business.

We do have specific people in charge of specific areas...
It doesn't really matter why, does it? Not your concern.

Bob, looking chunky there. I got 3 letters for ya: E.C.A.
-
Really? Please post where that was said...
your getbig past is kind of embarrasing isn't it chick?
you let 240 trick you into making such a BS claim that your boss (deluca) had to come on here and
set the record straight.. but off course you're probably going to deny that as well.
from a claim of being able to personally view cc info, then you changed it to "I know the people that have access to this info" to now "i never said anything like that"
-
actually chick, its called lying.
Ask Deluca he'll tell you.

Bodybuilding.com has been busy consolidating its position not only as a top fitness Internet retailer but as a social hub for the bodybuilding community. User forums have been an important community element, racking up 19 million messages in the past five years. And its social network, BodySpace, where members can post photos of themselves, describe their workout goals and blog about their progress, has tallied more than 117,000 active users since its launch in January.
The e-retailer plans to intensify the social aspects of its site in 2008. "It won`t be just, `Here`s the product you should buy,` but `Here are BodySpace members you should know and content you should read,` based on what a customer`s needs and goals are," says CEO Ryan DeLuca. "We`ve just launched a workout tracker so people can follow each other`s progress. You can show your friends online what you`re doing, and people can have virtual workout partners. The main idea is to keep people motivated and excited about working out."
That enthusiasm could translate to major sales growth: DeLuca is projecting $122 million next year, up from a projected $90 million this year.
"There is no doubt our community and social networking offerings are making a big difference for sales and conversion," DeLuca says. "Since we added BodySpace, our average order size is up nearly $10 to $92.41, and our conversion rate is 8%, up from 7% a year ago. That one percentage point is huge."
Also this year, the site beefed up its use of online video. Bodybuilding.com hosts 24 different bodybuilding programs, each with multiple episodes. And live webcasts from bodybuilding shows have proven extremely popular.
While the content side of Bodybuilding.com is getting more social, the commerce side is getting more personal, observes Craig Smith, founder of consulting firm Trinity Insights. "Most retailers structure their categories by product, but Bodybuilding.com structures some of their navigation by fitness goal, whether it`s for muscle builders, fat loss products or energy enhancers. This structure helps users quickly find the products that meet their intrinsic goals or desires, and likely increases conversion rates."

One of the best examples of growth through an awesome domain purchase.

Awesome domain purchase is one smart move, what you do after it is MORE important...

Dont forget that the domain name plays a big part besides all this brain power he has.

Absolutely...let's not overlook the obvious though, BB.com originally started out under a different name and was doing quite well, THEN purchased the name from another company that owned it (obviously NOT doing as well despite having the name BB.com)
Names are only as good as the service behind them
-
i have never once been disappointed by the service i get from bb.com, they go above and beyond, i always get my stuff in 2-3 days TOPS via US mail and sometimes recieve samples of other products, good stuff all the way and great prices.
-
meltdown.
haha gold ;D

that's because you live overseas, i would never expect to get things right away if it's coming 6,000 miles.

ok thats enough
you can unsticky this and sticky the NASSER TEAM instead
thanks

All internet stores do about the same...as far as shipping, service and all that jazz. Amazon is no better than Buy.com or a Yahoo store. They just have name that generates $12B yearly. I havent purchased anything from them since 2002 or something like that, and still get better deals. His domain, bodybuilding.com, acts like a monopoly in a nitch market. Hence...the domain is more important than his so-called bigbrain

Ryan wouldn't have purchased the domain name for $30,000 if it didn't have great value.
You are correct in stating that the service is more or less the same anywhere you go. The edge for bodybuilding.com is the name, but also the vast amount of free content which draws people in. The prices are also consistently among the best, if not the best.
-
I also think the article should mention that bodybuilding.com has also been the source for one of bodybuildings next big things, the unstoppable juggernaut who goes by the moniker of "Dreamer."

bb.com does have great service indeed. the only supp i buy is whey protein but it is always here at my door within 3 days after i order, and they are never out of stock.
They even credited my account back $25 for the prolab meal replacements I bought like 3 years ago because it tasted like shit and I couldnt drink it.
-
bb.com is great. It's the only place i get supps. They ship faster than anyone i've seen.
-
240 was not pushing any buttons, nor could he
LOL. Good one. Went down pretty much as Goat said.
-
If you can't land a major name such as bb.com, you're almost better off making a generic name. Between 1fast400.com and BulkNutrition.com, 1fast400 did quite a bit more business than BN. It is a name that makes no sense to the market, but it's unique. I always had a good relationship with bb.com. Ryan and I spoke on emails a few times, but have only met once or twice. When the PH ban was coming up, I had bought all the 1-AD ergo had left. I sold ryan around 1000 units. Eventhough we were competing against each other at the time, I believed in having good relationships.
Had I not spoke with Russ deluca back in at the emerald cup in 06, I would have never sold my company. It was the first time we had ever met, he was real nice. I wish those guys the best. They are doing it right. Within a few years there will only be a few major players in the online industry. There is another company that is buying up websites and making a hard charge at coming up to bb.com's size.

Hi Bob.
