Part of the NFL combine involves a player doing as many reps as they can with 225. I have on occasion changed my training to try and coincide with the combine to see how I compare with the players and as sort of an expression of support for Univ. of Hawaii players at the combine. Didn't do it last year, but did it the prior three or four years. Anyone interested in doing this? I'll be doing it this year. Not really a competition, but sort of a personal challenge. The combine is 20 - 26 Feb. 08, which is about two months out.

That'd be pretty fun. I am up for that. I am shit at benching though.

O.K. That's one. :) Me and you then. This has been hands down the worst training year of my life, so mine sucks right now too. Have not been to the gym in a month (on my way there in a minute). Probably my longest layoff since I was 15. Been insanely busy. I can probably barely do 15 to 20. But we have 2 months. I want see how close to 40 I can get.
I only bench once a week, so I'll post weekly progress here. You do the same?
-
I've never been able to do 15 or 20. I bet I can only do it once right not...but this is also my second week training again after seven months or so. That should go up pretty quickly. Yea, I'll post it in my training log.

So I finally got to the gym on chest day, after about six weeks. As I suspected, 15 reps. :-[

well, like I said, that's a whole lot better than me right now. But worry not, if you just came off a lay off, you know it is going to shoot right up.

I believe the all-time NFL Combine Record is 43 reps with 225 lbs. by Scott Young.
Ridiculous.

That's before they all came off juice though, still, strong as a mofo.
It's hilarious seeing how small all the NFL guys are now since everyone got off the juice for the whole baseball thing going on.
-
I know that most athletes are getting off the juice these days, but check out Vernon Gholston of Ohio State.
Juice or genetics?

He's definitely been on at one point, probably a mix of both.

Bty, what are the rules in this contest? Is it a pause bench or a touch and go bench?

You know, I'm not sure about that. It seems to be that you have to barely lock out for it to count because they bang out the reps fast and don't hold the lockout, but they get pretty close.
-
No no no, I mean on the chest-is it powerlifting rules where you have to come to a complete stop on the chest or is it just touch and go.
-
Ohhh, i think its just touch and go. sorry about that
-
Ok, well as of yesterday, I am up to 4 reps at 225 pause bench style.
-
actually i think the record was last year Mike Kudla from ohio state did 45( im pretty sure)
-
bunkley did 44 reps in '06
