Just watched it. I have a friend who gets those DVD Screeners....

Anyway, it's nerve wracking and depressing. I thought overall it was a good movie. Didn't leave a huge impression on me though. The Night Seekers looked like video games characters. I would have like to see a build up to the chaos. More of a back story.

Fun to watch, but I agree. The story was rushed.  Too loud and just implausible. The Night Seekers weren’t just zombies they were Superzombies… with strength, speed, and agility that not even Spiderman has.  If a virus could do that most guys would want it! LOL

Oh, and Will Smith as a Ph.D virologist, soldier/weapons expert/amateur bodybuilder was a little hard to swallow.  I’ve known a few Ph.D. virologists intimately and none of them were built like the character in this movie.

I am.  It's usually an either or proposition.  You can have the mature brilliant researcher (it takes a long time to get a Ph.D and build a research program/career) or you can have the the young hunky soldier with bulging muscles.  Guess which one I chose.  :)

btw, that lead zombie was kinda cute.  ;D

28 Days Later was a better zombie movie.

I couldn't really place what role Will Smith's role was in the whole virus. He said it was "his site" but didn't really go into the back story of HOW it was his site.

I was holding this movie up to I Robot which I watched about 10 times and each time it's fresh. This didn't match up.

However last night after reflecting on this movie I got a near anxiety attack thinking about if this scenario actually happened. I mean that shit was literally hopeless for him. At least in 28 days/weeks later the zombies don't thrive.

I love apocalyptic stories/films, but a Ph.D virologist, soldier/weapons expert/amateur bodybuilder who just happens to be immune to the virus?  ::)

I downloaded the film and am watching it again.. Maybe it will get better with subsequent viewings... LOL  I agree iRobot holds up much better.  But any way you slice it, it's official: ID4, iRobot, I am Legend; Will Smith is one of the new generation of bankable action stars.

Will Smith is untouchable. He has that Oprah Winfrey type quality where he's black enough for blacks but safe enough for whites not to be threatened by him. As long as he keeps the "blackness" voice for when he's mouthing off to a foe people will like him. Will Smith is where the media wishes the rest of urban society would catch up to.

That started 11 years ago when Independence Day came out. Remember they used to call him the king of the 4th of July?

Did the telephones and internet stop working in this future world?  Why?  If he had the electricity and wherewithal to set up his radio broadcast why weren’t the survivor colonies in Vermont and elsewhere in touch with each other?

Will Smith may be bankable, but I'd hardly call him the "only" bankable black actor. They're all bankable
Denzel has also made more films than Will Smith. I also cannot think of any "misses" Denzel has made.

You always choose the right tool for the job, and if you want an "actor", you know who to cast.
If you want a comic, you know who to cast. If you want someone to look pretty while shit blows up around them,
...again you know who to cast. Will Smith has been very good at choosing the right material for him.

Both Ashley Judd and Sandra Bullock passed on "Million Dollar Baby". Hilary Swank took it and made it her own.
The same girl who was fired by Aaron Spelling for being a "bad actress" went on to win 2 Best Actress Oscars before the age of 30. It's not 'JUST' about the actor, it's also about the material, and the supporting players (cast & crew)

Can you picture anyone other than Sylvestre Stallone in the role of Rocky? Well guess what?
The studios originally wanted Rocky to be played by Ryan O'Neill. Can you picture that? Do you think it would have been the same movie? Do you think it would have had the same impact? Is not that Will Smith alone is bankable, ...they're all bankable, ...it's simply that he knows how to pick his material. He's been exceptionally good at that, and with the exception of "Six Degrees of Separation", has not ventured out of his box.

Don't get me wrong. i'm a fan of Will Smith, and I enjoy all his work. Infact, I enjoyed 'Men In Black' the other night, and just finished watching 'Independence Day' 30 mins ago. I have both copies of 'Bad Boyz', always enjoyed him in 'Fresh Prince' and loved him in 'I am Legend', etc., etc., ...but there is no comparing what he did in any of those films to what Jamie Foxx did in 'Ray'. Not even on the same level, or in the same league.

Jamie Fox has the most range of them all...Will Smith is a black version of Tom Cruise...No range what so ever(showed alittle bit in the P/of happiness but very little)...Has all the charisma in the world and that is why he will forever be a huge draw...But as far as real actors, Will Smith will never be on that list...Denzel is another one that has all the charisma in the world but every single film he is in, its like he plays himself...

Now Johnny Depp is a guy who has some serious range...A totally complete actor...

Will Smith attempted to show some range in the pursuit of happiness but kept going back to all the same facial expressions of his role in Independence day...He has about as much range as Tom Hanks...Even when Tom Hanks played a dummy, it was like he was playing himself...

What do you mean? i thought it meant making money for studios

I mean it in a development sense. From the very start of a project. You're looking at it from when the film in already in the can and ready for release, ...but an actor's "bankability" is relevant much earlier in the process. In order for films to get a green light, most often a star has to be attached. Once a star has attached their name to a project, producers are then able to get investors pouring in, as well as additional personnel coming on board. I'm saying that certain stars who may not have produced as big a box office over their film careers, can get films green lit faster than others who have. Not only can they get the green light faster, they can also attract more talented personnel signing on to the project from cast & crew. When you have the best cinematographers, the best makeup artists, the best costume designers, and the best editors, SFX, stunts, pyros etc., you can make one heckuva film.

When Eduoardo made "Between Strangers" on a virtual showstring budget, many people, myself included agreed to work on it simply because of the bankability of his leading lady. We didn't even know or care what it was about at the time, we knew it would be a worthwhile experience because of his leading lady. Infact, all the unions gave special dispensation for personnel all across the board to accept work on the project for less than union scale, ...and we all jumped at it. Some actors are individual walking talking breathing living economies in their own right, ...and that's bankability.

No disrespect intended to either actor, ...but look at either Kate Winslett or Leo Di Caprio.

"Titanic" was huge, ...then too was Gerard Butler's opening weekend for "300", but none of them could pull together bankers and investors faster, or with more assurity than certain other actors.

Will Smith attempted to show some range in the pursuit of happiness but kept going back to all the same facial expressions of his role in Independence day...He has about as much range as Tom Hanks...Even when Tom Hanks played a dummy, it was like he was playing himself...

Tom Hanks has an incredible range. Have you seen him in "Streets of Philadelphia".
I just caught him in "Charlie Wilson's war", ...and he was a whole nother person. (kind of sexy even)  :-[ {blush}

of course jamie foxx has more range then the fresh prince, i agree 100% but im talking about putting bums in seats, and box office dollars, hell Deniro kills stallone in his profession but stallone dwarfs him in box office...Im talking about $$$$

Yes, ...but before you can get to the box office draw, ...you have to get the project made to begin with.
When it comes to getting a project made, DeNiro is far more bankable than Stallone imo.
Unless Stallone is making a Rambo or Rocky, you can forget it ever seeing the inside of a soundstage, let alone a theatre screen.

Doesn't compare to his witty fun character Kip Wilson on the TV mega-hit Bosom Buddies.

no but i've seen him pay in the movie "Philadelphia" as the homo and it was Tom Hanks being Tom Hanks with a gay twist...I haven't seen Charlie Wilson's war but caught about a 3 minute trailer and it was Tom Hanks exactly...He may very well have just about as much range as Julia Roberts...Which is next to zero...At least he is not like Cruise who is a straight out over actor...

So Tom Hanks is exactly the same in "The Green Mile," "Forrest Gump," "Streets of Philadelphia," "Apollo 13," "Turner And Hooch" and "That Thing You Do?" ::)

There are always going to be common traits within actors. Hanks did lose his southern drawl in "Gump" while yelling in the Army scene. But to say he has no range, what's your criteria for that?

I will actually say quicker then anyone else, including denzel, harrison ford and tom cruise, damn Cruise was sacked from Paramount last year, and his new flick with merryl streep made like 12M all up..
Denzel has pull no doubt, but im sure the investors and financiers come running when they know "THe Fresh prince" is attached to a project knowing that Will has worldwide pull, Everybody in the world knows Will.

On similiar topic

I remember reading an article ages ago in the 90's,  "If your name was Sylvester Stalllone you could get any piece of crap movie made, like Oscar, stop or my mom will shoot, Over the top (he got paid $12M for that upfront and that was in the 80's) Rhinestone, Cobra (which was supposed to be Beverly hills Cop if sly played it instead of eddie)

Perhaps, ...if Will is in his box playing the cocky, funny, witty guy who manages to save the earth with a smile on his face and a joke or two on his lips? Let him attempt to stretch and see how fast he gets financing or greenlit.
Let him say he wants to direct the movie, and see if he gets to, ...let alone a budget over 3 million to play with.

he has been nominated for 2 oscars, he is not 2 dimensional as you think,  i think he could attempt and stretch and still get financing and all that, it may not do well but if Jim carrey can get financing for some of the unfunny stuff his done so can will.. plus being cocky and funny is his forte, thats what people want to see and PAY to see from him, why shoud he stray from that, his numbers destroy every other actor that have more range and acting talent like Tom hanks, Foxx, Cruise, Denzel...That's bankable....As you know i love foxx but "the kingdom" flopped hard, He played "Ray" better than Will played "Ali" but i got a feeling his going to feel the heat at the box office cause Jamie does not have The pull Denzel or Will has...
Anyway thats my opinion, of course Im not in the industry, im just a poster on getbig that acts like i know it all hahahha

I dont think its fair to say 'put will in a movie where his not funny and witty

I'm not saying Will can't stretch, or act outside of his box,
...I'm saying those who bank the projcets consider that more of a risk than they're willing to take.

Former Faith No More frontman Mike Patton did all the voices for the zombie thingies. Being a Patton fan I thought that was cool.

Some random incoherent thougts:

Foxx was extremely good in "Ray", but average in "Miami vice".
Smith plays the tough, funny guy pretty good but he relies on certain tricks too much imo. I wasn't that impressed by "Ali" to be honest. Denzel washington is good (loved him in american gangster), but his latest movie flopped at the box office i heard.

What about Russel Crow? I think he's pretty bankable...

Oh yeah, i heard W. Smith is now a member of Scientology. Is he going the Cruise way?  :-\

People used to say you couldn't get a job in Hollywood unless you were Jewish.
Now they're saying you better be on board with the Scientologists.  :-X
