Title: Manufactured Right-wing Persecution and Support
Post by: Decker on December 19, 2007, 07:48:46 AM
Why does the Right have to manufacture tales of persecution and popular celebrity support?

Here’s the most recent ‘persecution’:

A Hoax Exposed at Princeton

With President George W. Bush only a year away from departing the White House and the Republican succession in turmoil, some of the most prominent conservative intellectuals and activists have gathered together for one last great crusade. Movement icons from Robby George of Princeton to Harvey Mansfield of Harvard, from David Horowitz to Brit Hume, raised howls of persecution when they heard reports that two masked men allegedly attacked a conservative Princeton University student. They insisted that the right-wing acolyte was beaten up "for his conservative views," as Horowitz put it. And they accused Princeton of failing to protect conservatives and upholding a hypocritical liberal double standard. Unfortunately, the trumpeted cause collapsed when the victim turned out to be a hoaxer.

There's no need, real shit like this happens (non violent) on college campuses all over America....any republican student does anything they get yelled down....Freedom of Speech only applies to the Left on college campuses...its only when these idiots have to get a job do they embrace capitalism and the Right.

Exactly.
Most 18-21yr old republicans are religious nuts or privileged douches.  Both have reached their conservative views by fallable means.

The conservatives that I knew in college were "yelled down" more for their general ignorance of world view than views on politics.

Both my parents were Dems...i decided pretty early that conservatism was the way to go. Reagan rolled up the Soviet Union right before my eyes.

I haven't embraced the right.

Have you ever wondered why many schools of higher education are left-wingers?  Is it the insulated ivory towers they live in that does it to them and once they get on the streets of real life they become rightwingers.

Or is it that they have developed a different, educated viewpoint that accounts for more than mere self-interest?

It's an age-old question.

Moderated, regulated Capitalism is fine.  It's those wanting unregulated, law of the jungle, winner-take-all Capitalism that need some schooling.

Unless you're the Alpha male that is ready to be the winner that takes all.

I've found most intelligent people that take a fiscally liberal stand aren't motivated enough to thrive in a winner-take-all business world.   Gimme my paycheck and make sure I'm taken care of if I don't perform well enough to keep my job.
