Title: Blair converts to Catholicism
Post by: loco on December 22, 2007, 01:30:15 PM
LONDON, England (AP) -- Tony Blair, who often kept his religious views private while serving as Britain's prime minister, has converted to Catholicism, officials said Saturday.

Blair, who had long been a member of the Church of England, converted to the Catholic faith during a Mass held Friday night at a chapel in London, the Catholic Church said.

Note for those interested:

Catholicism is a Christian denomination, and not a different religion.

Just like Protestantism (Baptism, Lutheran, Methodism, Calvinism, et al).

Anglical (the one Blair was a member of).

And the two different Orthodox versions.

Ie, Catholicism is just as much Christianity as any of the above.

I.E., Catholicism is just as much a load of shit as the rest of Christianity.

Hedge Catholicism it is quite different to the others in many ways.
There are also many conspiracy theories about the RC church, some with proof some with out.
The RC church also tries influence in politics in many places.
History has also shown the RC church to have terrible reputation for cruelty and hypocrisy during the ages, the number of Popes doing very human things during the ages is well documented.

Doesn't change the fact that Catholicism is just as much a Christianity as any of the other 5 major denominations.

What do you know about the orthodox church eg?

Yes, it is a Christian denomination, unfortunatly alot of Catholicism is not based on Scripture as it is tradition. IMO, it separates itself from the body of Christ.

Not to much, but I know many of them are more into Nationalism more than Christianity.

I agree with this, and a lot of the tradition is pagan and not Christian

Well, I would like to see what you base that statement on?

Do you even know that the Orthodox church is headed by a Patriarch?

There are many Orthodox churches and yes I do know that they are patriarchal.

Orthodox churches are touchy over who they will allow to marry if the one person is not of the same nationality.(I had a friend who had to live through this)
Where I live the Orthodox churches are small and each one is where a small comunity of people who have emigrated here like the Greeks etc.
Once again linked to a nation.

I also remember an article about the orthodox churches role in the Balkan conflict, stirring up nationalism.
It is more of a "National Religion" and national purity than Christianity itself IMO

Bethlehem, West Bank - Robed Greek Orthodox and Armenian priests went at each other with brooms and stones inside the Church of the Nativity on Thursday as long-standing rivalries erupted in violence during holiday cleaning.

The basilica, built over the grotto in Bethlehem where Christians believe Jesus was born, is administered jointly by Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic authorities. Any perceived encroachment on one group's turf can set off vicious feuds.

On Thursday, dozens of priests and cleaners came to the fortress-like church to scrub and sweep the floors, walls and rafters ahead of the Armenian and Orthodox Christmas, celebrated in the first week of January. Thousands of tourists visited the church this week for Christmas celebrations.

But the cleanup turned ugly after some of the Orthodox faithful stepped inside the Armenian church's section, touching off a scuffle between about 50 Greek Orthodox and 30 Armenians.

Palestinian police, armed with batons and shields, quickly formed a human cordon to separate the two sides so the cleaning could continue, then ordered an Associated Press photographer out of the church.

Embarrassing!  They give Christianity a bad name.

John 13:35
"By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
