Title: Plateaus...what are they?

This is something I have definitely experienced...but don't really know how to explain.  Are these times that we are simply not doing something correctly for a length of time or are we actually resistant to growth for a period of time for some seemingly unknown reason?  Discuss.

The latter; animals operate in cycles, can't maintain consistent growth and improvement indefinitely. I think though that we can try different things to attempt to minimize those downswings, bring the body and mind out of them faster.
