I was training back today and usually finish up with deadlifts. Everything was fine; pullups, rows, etc. and then I got to deadlifts I felt totally weak. I had to knock it down 50lbs to do the routine properly.
It was bizzare. All of a sudden.
Has anyone else had this experience of random and selective loss of strength?

Do you usually do deads last?
I know when I used to regularly deadlift, I would use 425x2, or 365x6 etc....but that was at the start of the routine. By the end of my back workout, I was lucky to hit 315 for 6.
You're certainly stronger at the start, and should use the big compound lifts when you have the most energy- though if you're up for the challenge/want to shock your body a la Arnold, then doing your routine in reverse can be great!
(Hope I didn't go too far off on a tangent there!)

Actually I always do them last. Kind of subjective but I want more strength for pullups and rows...no it was bizzare. Maybe it was a freak occurence I hope so. I AM dieting and I know loss of strength sometimes happens but I haven't lost any onf bench, etc. so it is weird.

Has it only happened once? Sometimes it just happens that way, your lifts will fall once in a while, no big deal, next week you'll be right back where you were.

It has happened once or twice in the past with no explanation. I hope it wasn't a big deal. :-\

sometimes this happens with me too. I think I pinned it down to having simple sugars shortly before working out. You feel fine at first but by the end I just crash really fast.

i always finish my back workout with deads, haven't noticed any strength loss compared to when i used to do them first.

So if you do deads first, say you work up to 405...if you do them last, you still pull the same reps with 405?
-
i am not sure as it's been a while since i did deads first. i just don't feel warmed up enough if i start with deads. i can still pull 545 for a single at the end of my back workout so i am not complaining.

You can`t be Superman at every workout.
Ever hear of biorhythm?
Lots of variables go into why this happens......just a few:
lack of rest/recovery/sleep
lack of proper nutrition
going too heavy too often
training at different times
mood when training/enthusiasm
etc. etc.
If any weight feels heavy for the reps your going for, then use it for those reps........the body only knows heavy and light not the number of plates on the bar.
In any event, just train as heavy as you can on any given day for the rep range your shooting for.....it is normal for it to vary at times.

Google biorhythm for detailed info.

Also, what did you have to eat that day?
For me, a bigger factor than what I ate THAT day, is what I ate the day BEFORE. If I eat lackluster on that day I have no problems, but something in my body and "storage" of food makes it so that when I eat poorly a day ahead, I can't lift as well as usual the next day.
Another thing to check into... :)

I think for me, sleep is the real issue; I never really get enough.
