Title: USC player, 200lb DB's, 8 reps, incline
Post by: England_1 on December 31, 2007, 09:01:32 PM
The 6-foot-1, 305-pound senior has grown so strong that the Trojans had to buy a set of 200-pound dumbbells for their weight room just to accommodate him. "Before, the heaviest we had were 160s," said Chris Carlisle, the Trojans' strength coach, who adds that Ellis can now do sets of eight reps on the incline bench with the bigger iron.

Don't disagree, there a mainstay in my strength programs, but if i'm going to have a guy get injured, I'd rather see him injured on the field, not in the weight room, there is no functional reason to push that kind of weight exept for ego. Especially a D1 player.

thats true and i think most college strength coaches use barbells for heavy pressing.

squats and inclines are two big lifts for lineman.

They are, but I usually use DB's on the incline for either change or unilateral movements, when I have my guys do incline BB, I have them use a fairly close grip to use more tricep....not as wide as regular presses but not as close as tricep presses. DB's are always more functional than BB simply because you use more stabilizers in the movement. Same with DB inclines, elbows in and on both I will use a 4-0-1 tempo.

Why not? It isn't even an accomplishment. Just eat all day, lifting for only eight reps,  will get most people fat and strong. What an accomplishment... ::)

No way. Flat and incline BARBELL work is VERY adequate for Max Effort work. NO need to ORDER bigger Dumbells if the 160's wouldnt suffice

bullshit, let's see some proof, for now the claimed "200's"= 130's, still a damn good lift.

I weigh 204 right now and can hit 120's for 5 clean, full reps.  I don't understand why you all don't think that guy couldn't do 200's weighing 305.  It's not like that's an other-worldly lift.  I saw a guy at a Gold's in Myrtle Beach do incline presses with 200's about 12 years ago.  He did somewhere between 8 and 10 reps and probably weighed 275 or so.

You must be a really weak guy to think 130's is very impressive.  Chest is by far my weakest bodypart and I can nearly do that.

Haha yeah you must be really weak if you think that's impressive, I weigh 175 and I can shoulder press the 200's for 15, and this is after my 500 pound behind the neck presses and MMA training.

hahahahaa, ok "alldrugs", i love the time tested classic, "200 pound dumbbell inclines for reps isn't an other worldly lift, i see it all the time by guys who weigh 162". ::)

I bet NFL players are juiced more than any other.. I mean juice would be most helpful to them as they need to be big and very strong.

Can't tell me 6'3" 280 lbs lean and the ability to run  FAST is natural.. No fucking way.

It is certainly possible.

Very possible.......we have a guy at my gym who only does chest and arms, shoulders ( great guy but ugly body) who actually bought and donated a pair of 200`s. He is about 6 ft., 250ish who I have seen hit 5 good incline reps. Only other times I have seen them used by anyone else were for shrugs.

The real genetic freaks in America are in the NFL.  I still can't get over how a lot of people on here believe that professional bodybuilders are "genetic freaks"...they are science experiments.  The real genetic freaks make more in 3 hours than most pro bodybuilders make their entire career.
