I am bit torn on this; sometimes it is convenient and the music motivates me, other times the mp3 physically gets in the way...

i turned my garage into a gym so i cant really comment on the mp3,but having my own gym has really made me realize how well music effects me when i workout.

how is it in the way? people used to bring walkmans and cd walkmans to the gym. the mp3 players are small as shit if you get one for music only
-
i know what he means, it depends on the size of the mp3player, and the headphone wire gets in the way especially when doin rows

Exactly... :-\
-
Well for some exercises like leg curls I just don't use it. Simple
At one of the gyms I go to I've been there so long that I just bring my own CD and put it on the main stereo which of course is the best if you can do that 8)
-
The music at my gym is so bad I could not make it through a workout with out my mp3 player. I thank God for it every training day!

haha ive been to gyms like that... at one time the music was so loud i had to put the headphones on full blasts
ive even been to gyms where they put on ballads or radio talk between songs how the hell you suppose to work out to that
-

tuck the wire under your shirt...depends where u put the mp3 player, if it has a clip and you clip it on ur waist or even put it in your pocket, just run the wire under your t shirt and run it out of the shirt by the neck, the wire wont get in your way that way...it does get in my way when i do shrugs cuz i put it in my pocket
-
I also train at home most of the time, but seeing that I like my metal loud I usually a MP3 as well.
-
An Ipod Shuffle is SO small, it weighs like an ounce and clips on to anything, including the sleeve of your t-shirt.
I actually don't use an mp3 player when I train with weights, but I could not survive without it for my cardio.
-
yea i got one of the new shuffles it is so damn small...i tuck the wire under my shirt and either clip it to the waist band or put it in my pocket....splurge for the 60 bucks or whatever and get it...especially if your like me and a couple others that have the worst music in the world at the gym....at my gynm they play a british radio station and they talk more then they play music...
-
I like to blast godsmack when i train, really puts you in the zone. I can't stand disco music in the gym, so unmotivational.
-
you need to go and download some Hatebreed or Bury Your Dead and of course you got to have Slipknot. that stuff is all i listen to in the gym...it gets me mad and my adrenaline flowing..go get some of that and listen to it and let me know...
-
i got one of those

When I work out with a partner no i-pod,when training by myself I always use an i-pod.
I just run the cord through my shirt, and yes every once in awhile the cord gets in the way.

My ipod shuffle is purple, it's pretty sweet too.
-

1 GB, which isn't all that much, but Apple says it's enough to put about 240 standard length songs on. It'll last several workouts before you get in the mood to change the music up.
It's so small and cute! :D

i meant one of these.....i have the ipod shuffle with 1gb which is plenty to go to the gym with....
-
i love my ipod but i rarely use it anymore, just gets in the way or even falls off every once in a while, really slows me down at times, but it does motivate me to workout harder
-
i use one to motivate and to keep motherfuckers from talking to me
-
My gym has the worst music in the world. I am willing to bet money.
-
Golds Gym in Venice has pretty fucking horrid music, all those godamn soccer moms taking over the place.
I have an iPod Nano, my first ever MP3 player. I fucking love it, but I highly recommend getting different ear plugs, the default Apple ones blow.
-
yea the default apple earbuds blow big time which earphones do you use emm? its funny cause i just saw some the other day with my wife that were like 17 pounds and they looked nice they were those gummy ones that kind of squish in your ear...i almost bought them but 35 dollars for earphones is too much for me way too much....

These are by far the best ear phones I've used, expensive but they are great:

dude thats way too mch to be spending on earphones man...
-
if you heard the shit they play at my gym..you'd never workout WITHOUT an mp3...
and I used to love my shure e2c's when they first came out..but now I'm using skull candy's full metal jacket 11mm earbuds and they're the best fucking thing out there under a c note right now. They've got what sounds like double the output of anything up to the e3c's from sure..

You will look like a total ass with those giant wireless head phones...
just pass the cords through your shirt, that's way more convenient. Also, if they fall out during chinups, you don't have to fear to crush them when you get down on the floor again. ;D ;D ;D ;D

get some in-ear-head-phones, they literally shut you off from any interference from the outside... ;D

Yeah i got some of these too. There awesome. Sounds better too, don't need to turn it up as loud. And there quiet, so you can listen to music in a quiet place and no one would be able to tell, as opposed to normal ones in which you can easily tell what someone is listening too.
That being said, i dont ever take an mp3 or anything to the gym. Though i wish i did when they play soulja boy on the radio ::)

I don't take a mp3 to the gym either. i can just shut off, so even the mp3 would distract me from lifting.
