I think mainly ageing and burnout.

ronnie has competed in the pro ranks non-stop since 1992.

thats a hell of a long time and he started a bit later than most too.

the only pose that ronnie truly knew how to hit well all the time was the most muscular.

most of his other poses could have been improved in terms of how he hit them, IMO

Especially the front lat spread... He could have looked awesome in that
shot but he almost always slumped his shoulders forward. Here is a shot
of him hitting it right and he looks great.

2002 was the year he tried to redeem himself after coming in too heavy and out of shape in '01 and narrowly escaping with the title as Jay made his first big run at claiming the Sandow.
Everyone told Ronnie that he should come in similar to his 98 shape in NY when he won his first Sandow. So, Chad and Ronnie went to the drawing board and did "exactly that," as Chad said once over at Mayhem. But obviously Ronnie didn't look anywhere close to his 98 showing. I remember Ronnie's biceps were shriveled up and gone! His freakiness was nowhere to be found, and he was flat as a pancake off the stove.
Had Jay not sat out 2002 because he was pissed he lost in '01, he could very well have won a bit earlier. But the "ifs ands or buts..." can't ever be proven.
Then Ronnie came back to for the redemption of a lifetime, in 2003 and came in at nearly 300lbs, and ripped as can be- but not nearly as sharp as he could have been at a lighter bodyweight.
Some people speculate the reason that Ronnie is continuously coming in bigger is because that's all he can do now. There is no going back to his 98 form, because he can't due to whatever reason.

I like the Iron Age look of Arnold and Samir but
I think alot of the guys that like those same kind
of physiques forget how small Ronnie's waist was
at one time. His shoulder to waist difference is almost
as good as anyone's in 99. 2nd pic is Brian Buchanan
known for his tiny waist.
3rd pic was taken off my TV with a dig camera b4 I got a DVD recorder.

doubtful.

the difference in detail is just too great.

generally, what starts off smooth when you are young, does not increase in detail as you get older.

Actually, Cutler size would not have compared to Ronnie of the past and it never did in the judges eyes either.  He's bigger now, but Ronnie kicked his ass year after year.  No one will ever compare to Ronnie when he was his best...NO ONE.

After seeing the recent guest posing of Phil Heath
I was impressed by his CRAZY arms. If you could combine
the width of Wolf (clavicles + shoulders) and the crazy thickness
and condition that Heath can achieve you might have someone
that could surpass Ronnie. Unfortunately, Heath will never have the width (clavicles)
and Wolf will never have the back or biceps that would make them
able to surpass Ron at his best. (I could be wrong but genetically I
think this is the case).

ronnie's level of refinement (ie detail, shape and vascularity) has always put him in a totally different class than other 'mass monsters'.

from whoever he is training with now. look at his physique. it needs to be refined, not have a complete overhaul or much new added.

reasons why ronnie was great:

big, ripped legs
big, ripped chest
big, ripped arms
big, ripped back
small waist

wolf has big, ripped legs, a small waist and a big chest. he should work simply on building the size of his arms and back (lats), whilst getting ripped to shreds all over.
Title: Re: Ronnie Coleman - 2002 BFTO DVD Pics

Wolf definetely needs more quality and density, but come on, this guy only trains for about 9 years, he's a baby. He has the perfect lines and structure to become one of the greatest BB of all time. The quality comes with the years of training, and nothing else (except if your name is Jay Cutler).

true. wolf can improve his biceps just a bit, making them more prominant in shots, but it is also to do with posing. there are tricks to posing which he could use to enhance their look, yet i think he should focus on the other points first (e.g. overall conditioning and bigger lats).

I think the best he could have been in the 2007 Olympia
was to equal his 2006 Dutch Grand Prix condition. At 43
he was going to be no better than that. Saying this, I think (as
well as the audience) that he beat Cutler @ this contest and would
have won the 2007 O with this package.

It was the last Grand Prix show after the 2006 Olympia

As much as I like Ronnie he was probably lucky to get 4th.

Cutler in 2001 would barely be able to scratch and claw his way to a 2nd place finish against the Ronnie of 2003.
