not trying to be morbid or mean, but just wondering what will happen to the bb world industry when the weider's left the earth? good or bad for the industry and it's competitors and publications, etcetera?
they (weiders) have their supporters and their despisers over the years.
they started and helped promote bb in the world and reign over the bb mags for decades now, but then again some (perhaps most) feel that they have been dictators and have treated the bbers like crap and a meal ticket for years now ( low prize money, no health insurance, banned from shows, etc)

Bob Hoffman had an iron grip on bodybuilding until senility took its toll and he entered a nursing home. Weider's rise to power correlates well with that.
Today Joe is no longer involved in bodybuilding. The IFBB is already in transition. It really is now two organiations. the torch has already been passed to Santonja for the amateur side, and Manion for the pros. Manion has complete control of pro bodybuilding. But he also complete control of amateur bodybuilding in the US via the NPC, a privately held company.
Manion is already in his 60s and its unlikely that he'll be able to wield such power into his 80s like the Weiders did. The real question is what will happen to bodybuilding in the US when he leaves the scene.

In 20 years, it'll be nothing more than a footnote.

I have offten wondered about that myself when the Weider's have passed on. For example what will happen to Flex and muscle and fitness. One other thought just came to mind what will happen to the Olympia and who will run the Olympia when the Weider's pass on.

Getbig will take over and run the show!!
-
Interesting topic! I have also thought about this. I think anyone into bodybuilding has thought about this. As what one person said, Manion is running things now, but hes in his 60's. It is going to be interesting to see who takes over. If they let some dumb meathead take over, I am sure the organization will be runned into the ground with in a matter of years.

My Italian "family" will come in and take over.

Will they cook us sausage and onions like they did in Goodfellas when they were in jail? :)

He made it for quite a few weeks, despite Simon Cowell hating on him all the time.

The Weider magazines were sold to AMI (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2002_Nov_27/ai_94662981) for $350 million back in 2002

Not precontest, but plenty of noodles and gravy after every show. Also, every competitor will get an "envelope" just for participating. I can not disclose what is in said envelope.
IFBB Chairman is narrowed down to three:
-Tony Saprano
-Joe Peci
-Al Pacino
-
Maybe this Show will go on after all...
-
hopefully it will get better

Follow the news buddy; Ben died in 2005 and Joe died in 2006. You must be thinking of Pecker?

When the Weiders die some other
manworshiping investor will run the IFBB

Are you kidding? Manion is just a placeholder. Do you REALLY think the Weiders would allow control of their empire to fall to a non-Jew??
The Elders of Zion have their protocols firmly in place for a proper succession in the bodybuilding industry halls of power.
