Title: Carbs necessary after workout?
Post by: SuperMike3288 on January 05, 2008, 09:29:47 AM
Just a quick question. I know that carbs are important post workout, but what if I take 25g of Waxy Maize before my workout and sip 25g of Waxy Maize with an AA drink during my workout... is it still necessary to ingest carbs after that workout or should this suffice? Thanks!

Well timing is important and pwo is when your body need those carbs the most. If your workout is going be be longer than usual you could start sipping on the shake towards the end of your session. If i was going to have a cardio session after training i would take in some bcaas and a little hydrolyzied whey before the cardio but i like to hold off on the carbs until pwo.

Why don't you experiment on yourself - try with or without carbs & see how you feel.

As of recent, the dietary supplement industry has seen an increase in the usage of Swedish Waxy Maize Starch. It does have a moderate Glycemic Index, however, it is it's unique osmolity that allows it to pass through the digestive system relatively quickly and help pull other nutrients with it into the bloodstream. It's purported effect is assumed to be a greater insulin release and having a higher amount of desired materials reach the blood stream in a smaller time frame.

Careful mixing other stuff with waxy maize.
Certain things – especially aminos – slow the absorption of WM.

Exactly how much, I’m not sure.
But since WM’s biggest benefit is its fast absorption, you may want to reconsider mixing AA’s with it.

I would take it all after, but then again, it matters how lean u are.

The perfect post workout shake is about 60grams of waxy maize and 40g of protein ( isolate)

you cant just generalize like that.....  for some this might be a horrible shake.

some people need much less carbs than that... some people much more...for two reasons, one is the differences in metabolic rate between dif. bodybuilders...and the second reason being styles of training. a guy like jay cutler who does massive amounts of volume and depletes huge amounts of glycogen... 60 g's would be too little, but for a h.i.t. trainer like mentzer 60 would be far above whats needed to replenish what was used during training.

some people need more protein than that, some people need a different kind of protein than that. the higher lean body weight you get the more protein is needed..the larger tha muscle hit, the more protein that is needed. and some people are lactose intolerant..while some people would benefit from a non-isolate that contains the small amount of added fats and sugars..some people would need a whey/casein mix...

60g. waxy/ 40-45g whey is the exact ratios I have after my workouts and then eat an hour or so later, protein and carb meal.

Does not matter which muscle group is trained, bigger does not need more protein. Whey Isolate is what Lactose intolerant people need post workout, stripped of most lactose.

My protien is Whey Concentrate, Hydrolyzed and Isolate because I have no problems with milk. Whey and Casein could be ok, but I want to eat 1-1 1/2 hrs. after that shake.

Crap.
I only have 1/3 scoop of whey left.
Looks like I’ll just be training my left anterior delt tonight.
Maybe I’ll run the rack.

i can't believe anybody still buys that ON 100% whey shit, probably the worst protein i have ever bought...if u want to try something new dymatize elite is much better quality plus it has digestive enzymes in it

I'll check that out.  I've always been happy with ON though it has a pretty good profile and the whey itself is good quality.

After my workout, I always have around 50-60g of waxy maize and some sort of protein (liquid form) around 40 grams. I eat about 75 minutes later :)

Dymatize Elite and ON Whey are pretty comparable. Just search for a Whey concentrate, Isolate and Hydolyzed product that is fairly priced. All these Wheys are out of control, damn Chinese!

No need to spend the extra money on digestive enzymes in a Whey protein. Whey digests very easy... If you get gassy from these, switch to a straight Isolate, pay more but far less lactose.

b is right on if you get gassy from the whey your taking  go to the isolate it is great...fuckin no more bombs 10 minutes after downin a shake no more restaurant clearing bar dropping bombs....although they can be hilarious like when your posted out for 12 hours and your just bombing your buddy practically to suffication whos posted with you at 3 in the morning...hahahaaaa anyways get an isolate...
