Took me about 2 1/2 years.  I started lifthing when I was a high school freshman and could only bench @ 75 lbs.  I was one weak bitch!  I got 225 the summer between my Junior and Senior year.  That was such a huge thing for me, to get 2 plates.  Nice memory.

Actually, I should be a bit more truthful...
My parents got me one of the Weider 210 lb adjustable sets for Christmas.  So the first time I tried to bench a 25 on each side (75lbs) I got crushed!

So I benched LESS THAN 75, but I don't know how much less!

I've never understood people inflating their numbers for the benefit of the internet community.  The only numbers I ever quote are either ridiculously believable (who would lie about a < 75lb bench???), or confirmable (my deadlift, which was my gym record and was posted on the board at the gym, for all to see).

I could say all kinds of huge numbers, but it wouldn't change the fact that they'd be bullshit!

I gotta admit it took a long time at about 2 years. Learning to balance the bar with 95 was my first obstacle, then came 115 and the classic 135. From then I started doing a light and heavy chest work each week, experimenting with different push-ups and learning to explode with the positive motion and decreasing my rest time. 225 was awesome because it just looks good. I am at 275 at 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps. I would like to get to 315 one day.

Ok, I was waiting for that :P

I went to Temple City High School, 76-80 (in California in case you want to check) my coach at the time was Al Langdale (PE and Head Football coach for TC at that time) the dude I beat was a guy named Kevin Hable. Not sure if Langdale is still there but feel free to check.

I tried it a few times and got 3 reps before my shoulder really started hurting. I can't even lower the weight to an inch above my chest without hearing a rubbing sound in shoulder joint. I try to bench before I train shoulders in the week but even though I can move 315 its not working my chest. Not worth screwing up my shoulder to jump 40 lbs. I am narrow across my shoulders and need to strengthen that. I can't BB press more than 145 for more than 3 sets at 10-12 reps.

I ran track in 11th grade. A guy bet me $5 that I couldn't bench 60 lbs on the Universal machine. He was 5'2 and 125 lbs and had just done it 10 times. I took the bet and couldn't budge the weight. I started lifting between 11th and 12th grade (16 years old). My brother wouldn't let me join his gym until I could press 135 which took about 4-5 months. I benched 200 lbs at the end of 12th grade and think my first 225 lb lift was my freshman semester in college, so I'd say between 15-18 months.

Hmm, so what you're saying is that when you were 17, you wrote an article where you claimed that you did a 400lb bench at 18? Besides being a superhuman, you can also see the future?

Joe, your only option is to contact DaddyWaddy, have him transform you into a reptilian and then meet up with gh15 and his time machine to travel back to 1932 and videotape yourself benching 400. Don't forget the videocamera and be sure no one catches you. You could possibly disrupt the whole time-space continuum for all eternity! Good luck and Godspeed!

When I started lifting at 17 I couldn't press an empty Olympic bar.

I can't. I recently suffered 3rd degree burns to my back and neck when I accidentally caught my mullet on fire
while cooking a batch of meth.
I laughed for 5 minutes after reading this for some reason.

About 10 months?

What I recall from it, is that I had been training with 180-210 frequently, triples and shit, looking back at it, probably a pretty good build up for a PB try.

Then I was able to lift both 225 and then 235. Which kinda annoyed me for some reason, 225 went up a little too easy.

i love this threats.  ::) ::)

Jason Cutler benched 240 on the first day he stepped into a gym at 14.  ::) ::)

315.  ;)

As for me, it took me almost exactly a year to hit 225, and five years from that point to hit 325, and a year later, it remains a very slow process for me to gain anything on my bench press.

17 yrs old.

That's a great answer. Especially if the question was "At which age you first lifted 225?", which it wasn't :-\
