Took me about 2 1/2 years. I started lifthing when I was a high school freshman and could only bench @ 75 lbs. I was one weak bitch! I got 225 the summer between my Junior and Senior year. That was such a huge thing for me, to get 2 plates. Nice memory.

I never benched that much weight.

Can't remember, but I broke the BP record at my high school when I was a sophmore, the record was held by a senior at that time who weighed 225 and did 375, I broke it at 165 and did 395.

My gym shorts and a t-shirt.

hahahahaa, more bullshit from good 'ol Joe.
-
hahahahaa, more bullshit from good 'ol Joe.
I was kinda thinking that would make him like the strongest 15 year old ever pound for pound.
-
My gym shorts and a t-shirt.
You ever bench naked?
-
Actually, I should be a bit more truthful...
My parents got me one of the Weider 210 lb adjustable sets for Christmas. So the first time I tried to bench a 25 on each side (75lbs) I got crushed!
So I benched LESS THAN 75, but I don't know how much less!
-

hahahaha, biggest bunch of bullshit i've ever heard.

With no bench shirt?
Okay...

I've never understood people inflating their numbers for the benefit of the internet community. The only numbers I ever quote are either ridiculously believable (who would lie about a < 75lb bench???), or confirmable (my deadlift, which was my gym record and was posted on the board at the gym, for all to see).
I could say all kinds of huge numbers, but it wouldn't change the fact that they'd be bullshit!
-
I gotta admit it took a long time at about 2 years. Learning to balance the bar with 95 was my first obstacle, then came 115 and the classic 135. From then I started doing a light and heavy chest work each week, experimenting with different push-ups and learning to explode with the positive motion and decreasing my rest time. 225 was awesome because it just looks good. I am at 275 at 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps. I would like to get to 315 one day.
-
hahahahaa, more bullshit from good 'ol Joe.
Ok, I was waiting for that :P
I went to Temple City High School, 76-80 (in California in case you want to check) my coach at the time was Al Langdale (PE and Head Football coach for TC at that time) the dude I beat was a guy named Kevin Hable. Not sure if Langdale is still there but feel free to check.

Your bench record is on the schools website? I don't think people are doubting you went to high school Joe.

The difference here is, I can give credible names of people you have probabaly heard of that witnessed it (the 535).

Nah, just feel free to call Langdale if he's there. If not, another teacher who I think is still there can probably back my claim, his name is John Vandeveer.

When is the last time you tried to get 315? I'm thinking that if you can do sets of 275 you should definetly be able to get 315.

That's Hardcore
-
I cannot disprove it, but a 400lb raw bench by a 165 lb, 15-year-old high school sophomore just stretches the ability to believe...
-

maybe you should get out and train at a real gym gtbro, you bitches here on getbig make me laugh, you think an 18,000 pound bench press for 10 is impressive? shit there are 26 guys at my gym who bench 30,000 for 20 weighing 132, if you ever got out and trained at a real gym you'd see this. ;D

If you have access to the 1980 or 81 Muscle Digest, the one with Tim Belknap on the cover after winning the America, there's a chest artical I did that state I did a 400lb bench at 18. Bix has it.

I tried it a few times and got 3 reps before my shoulder really started hurting. I can't even lower the weight to an inch above my chest without hearing a rubbing sound in shoulder joint. I try to bench before I train shoulders in the week but even though I can move 315 its not working my chest. Not worth screwing up my shoulder to jump 40 lbs. I am narrow across my shoulders and need to strengthen that. I can't BB press more than 145 for more than 3 sets at 10-12 reps.

No, I did a chest artical in that issue when I was 17.

I trained at my old high school and the biggest guy on the football team at maybe 245 not lean didn't go above 315. He was 17.
-

I can't. I recently suffered 3rd degree burns to my back and neck when I accidentally caught my mullet on fire
while cooking a batch of meth.

I didn't know you lived in San Bernadino or Riverside :D

I ran track in 11th grade. A guy bet me $5 that I couldn't bench 60 lbs on the Universal machine. He was 5'2 and 125 lbs and had just done it 10 times. I took the bet and couldn't budge the weight. I started lifting between 11th and 12th grade (16 years old). My brother wouldn't let me join his gym until I could press 135 which took about 4-5 months. I benched 200 lbs at the end of 12th grade and think my first 225 lb lift was my freshman semester in college, so I'd say between 15-18 months.
-
No, I did a chest artical in that issue when I was 17.
Hmm, so what you're saying is that when you were 17, you wrote an article where you claimed that you did a 400lb bench at 18? Besides being a superhuman, you can also see the future?

In all fairness Joe, if you don't have the Youtube clip of you benching 400 back in 1932, no one will believe you.

The pictures in the artical were taken when I was 17. I didn't write the artical.

Yeah, I know. I guess I could give all the credible names and contact #'s I want, but if it's not on youtube, I'm lieing.......but then again If I did the lifts on youtube, I'd be accused of using fake plates *sigh*
-

Joe, your only option is to contact DaddyWaddy, have him transform you into a reptilian and then meet up with gh15 and his time machine to travel back to 1932 and videotape yourself benching 400. Don't forget the videocamera and be sure no one catches you. You could possibly disrupt the whole time-space continuum for all eternity! Good luck and Godspeed!

So it took you 2-3 years to add 5 lbs to your bench?
You're not exactly building a good case for yourself, here.

5 minutes

i love this threats. ::) ::)
Jason Cutler benched 240 on the first day he stepped into a gym at 14. ::) ::)
And that's still what he can bench all these years later.
-

Ahh..didn't know how bad it hurt your shoulders.315 should hurt a little if your not a freak ;D
-
When I started lifting at 17 I couldn't press an empty Olympic bar.
-
I can't. I recently suffered 3rd degree burns to my back and neck when I accidentally caught my mullet on fire
while cooking a batch of meth.
I laughed for 5 minutes after reading this for some reason.
-
About 10 months?
What I recall from it, is that I had been training with 180-210 frequently, triples and shit, looking back at it, probably a pretty good build up for a PB try.
Then I was able to lift both 225 and then 235. Which kinda annoyed me for some reason, 225 went up a little too easy.
-
3 and a half months after i started i was doin 200lbsx5
thought i was a monster lol. looking back they werent paused on teh chest, th no bounce and only the first 3 touched my chest i dont 200x5 on my 18th birthday
-

315. ;)
As for me, it took me almost exactly a year to hit 225, and five years from that point to hit 325, and a year later, it remains a very slow process for me to gain anything on my bench press.
-
17 yrs old.
-
17 yrs old.
That's a great answer. Especially if the question was "At which age you first lifted 225?", which it wasn't :-\
-
I benched the bar for 3 sets of 15
-
About a year.
