Are you still training him? I saw his name on the list, I think it was the Arnold, maybe Ironman. You have any predictions? Top 3 maybe?

A heroic need to regurgitate pictures of yourself proves only your deep-seated insecurities.

wheres your picture man mountain?

Give that Alex = about 250 pounds and natural and 20% - 22% bodyfat (safe to assume from the pictures + better to assume BF too high when calculating the time requirements for a diet), he has about 195 pounds of lean bodymass, and 55 pounds of fat on his body.
He should never lose more than 1- 1,5 pounds per week if he wants to keep his muscle, and avoid crashing into the diet (Layne Norton advice).
If he loses 1,2 pounds of bodyweight for 30 weeks, he will go down 36 pounds during this time. If we assume that these 36 pounds are all fat, he will be 214 pounds after 30 weeks. Given that one controls calories exactly, achieving a 1,2 pound weightloss per week can be kept up for 30+ weeks with no problem. If one does not control the calories exactly, achieving a steady almost linear weight loss = very difficult.
His new stats will be this (given zero muscle loss, for the sake of the calculation): 195 pounds of lean mass, 19 pounds of fat = 214 pounds of bodyweight.
After 30 weeks, he will be around 8,8% bodyfat.
If we factor in potential problems like potential muscle loss (if he loses only 1,2 pounds per week, he will not lose much muscle, no matter what certain "experts" claim..), getting sick (can screw up weeks of dieting) and so on, he needs AT LEAST 30 weeks.
If he opts for the 1,5 pound plan, he might be better off, because at 8,8% bodyfat, he will not win GB3.
This example can of course be critiqued for many reasons, but the core thought here and the core message holds true.
If he is to diet for only 15 weeks, he needs to lose more than 3 pounds of fat each week with no muscle loss to come in ripped. That = completely unrealistic naturally. Such a weight loss and quick drop in bodyfat can be maintained for a short period of time, but not when starting from such a high BF%/having so much fat to lose.
This guy is pie, he cannot diet for that long

Calm down sweetie you're embarassing yourself; you have an ok build except for those triangular droppy pecs but there's nothing you can about it. Also those 26" high attachment quads are fearful, again not much you can do. Too Ectomorphic unfortunately

Debussey has done it itself (30+ weeks) as well. No big deal, it's just about getting used to the routine.
Debussey for president :)

How long do most BBers diet for? I noticed that some of them get awfully fat in the offseason, which I think makes it pointless to "be a bodybuilder" if you are going to look like shit half the year, but that's another discussion altogether. Is 7 months a long time to diet?

Yes, I would think 7 months is too long to diet. I think the average time is 12-16 weeks. This is what I hear and read.
-
Yes! The world needs the voice of Gary Busey!
The main benefit of dieting for 30+ weeks (with all it includes) is of course not the physical improvement one attains, but the personal skills attained by doing it. Debussey believes using discipline like that for a long long time improves ones character, which is useful in every area of life. :)
Why do you think Gary Busey got stopped by Steven Seagel in the movie "Under Siege."? :(....Ya know, I was rooting for Busey all the way :)
-

Since I have your attention I have a question. I realize that BBers aren't going to stay at sub 6% BF year round, but why do some of them let themselves get so fat in the offseason? Are they just being lazy? I know you need food to grow, but I think many of them are gluttonous.

Ya know, out of all the bodybuilders, I do not think too many of them get that fat in the offseason. Lee Priest got super fat becasue he said thats how you put on size. I personally think they probably just get lazy and sick of dieting. I can think of no other reason why you would let yourself blow up. Maybe it has something to do with the drugs :::shrugs::; In the end, I just think they need a break from the dieting. Though, I never competed, so I can be totally off.

It was just a move. In real life, Gary Busey would take Steven Seagal out by shooting lightening out of his ass. :)
Ahhhh, very good point! Gary Busey did dominate the werewolf in "Silver Bullet." :)
-
Gary Busey was pretty cool in Celebrity Fit Club. He wasn't even fat, only like 200 pounds, but he lost his "goal weight" several weeks before the show was done. The best self control of any contestant ever. Tbh, I think he was way too good to be on that show with those lardasses. >:(
-
This is the wheelchair that Gary Busey built for his handicapped nephew. Not only is he handy, but he cares about the physically challenged!
