Ok all just wanted to get some opinion's on the UFC heavyweight division. I have read on other boards people saying it is really the worst division. With fighters like Cro Cop (not really good showings lately but was top 3 at one time), Nog, Herring, Arlovski, Wedum, Vera, Kongo, etc is it any worse then other organizations HW division. If you feel the HW division is weak what fighters would you bring in to make it a better division? Besides the easy answers of Fedor (at this point I doubt we will see him ever fighting in the UFC) , Hunt (would be good I think), Aleks (will never get a visa due to his criminal history)??

the heavies arent just garbage fighters now BECAUSE of the Pride fighters that are there (even if not in top form) i myself dont have a side on this bullshit fight against pride fans vs ufc fans, but imho this is just a fact...before these guys, UFC only had Couture as a really top fighter on the heavy division...
and oh, all the other guys you mentioned are ex-Pride guys too...

I really think Josh Barnett would be a welcome addition the the HW ranks in UFC. I thin him and Brock would have a great match.Infact he would have great fights with anyone.
Though he is inconsistant id like to see James Thompson in there too - win or lose u always get an exciting fight with the Colosuss :)

Pretty good post, that I can't disagree with, But I'm sure someone will.

That's easy. They need to snag Kimbo, bring back Tank and get Bob Sapp. Those three would round out the UFC HWY Division nicely.

Yeah, considering the HW division has a weight limit of 265 and Bob Sapp is 90-100 pounds over that limit. ::)
Seriously, why are the mods on this board so fucking stupid? Did they just start watching MMA this year or something? Two of the three mods here know next to nothing.
Regardless, the HW division is pure shit right now. There just aren't that many good HW's right now outside of Barnett, Fedor, Nog, and Couture. Not sure what happened to some of the other Pride guys like Hunt but I'm sure they'll probably end up in M1 eventually.

the fact that you would take a sarcastic e-mail seriously shows what a dumb fuck you are...pathetic ::)

Spin you were way off on this post pal. First off Kimbo would get owned on the ground right now and has no right to fight for the UFC for at least another year of fights. (Not just hating on him, but he would get owned by a lot of the UFC guys.) Tank why would you want a 40 year old beer guzzling lazy out of shape has been back in the UFC. Good lord it sounds like you want to see freak show matches even bringing in the club swinging sapp and the other two.
I would love to see Randy comeback, Hunt, Alex (rather then Fedor), Barnett, Angelo Araujo (just as a new guy for 3 fights to see how he does), and hell let's throw cabbage in their for shits and giggles.

LOL. You thought that was a serious post :-\ those are the three biggest jokes on mma. None would get past redneck silvia ::)

you know, with all these upsets, i think maybe, just maybe, Sapp could become champion on UFC lol :o
I like Hunt a lot, but with the limit of weight on ufc it will be difficult...Alexander Emelianenko i think could become a champion very easily with the way the guys are fighting there...

I was not looking for a debate of Pride vs. UFC. Pride is no more so technically they are all UFC fighters. I was actually speakign about the state of the UFC divison at the moment. People are still saying it is weak. Is it that for the moment MMA in general lacks a good amount of talent? Is it the UFC? I guess my question is more about if you feel that the current state of the UFC HW division is crap who would you bring in to make it great...

I hope this was sarcasm.... Kimbo may be good sometime in the future but right now I think he is still a novelty act. Tank jeez as much as I respect his place in MMA history he is far from being the elite part of HW. Bob Sapp I remember watching the fight where Cro Cop broke his eye socket. Again I think Sapp is more a novelty then a legit HW

Unfortunately it is doubtful Alexander Emelianko will never get a visa with is past criminal record.

The majority of your posts are along the lines of that previous one. Good job trying to save face, though. ;)

very truth...Hunt is the guy i most want to see fighting, and also the Old Cro Cop coming back on top form...Man, it this was his 2006 form, he would absolutely destroy everyone so easily...but well..thats life...

Oh brother ::) To answer the question seriously, the reason the HWY division seems weak, is because the other weight devisions are so stacked. There are a lot more dynamic & skilled fighters at lighter weights. I think this is true not just for the UFC, but for everyone. Many of the HWY guys, like Sylvia, rely on their size to win matches. That said, Barnett & Fedor are about the only true HWY's, not in the UFC, that have real skills.

I think the underlying problem is that most big athletic guys who could make good MMA fighters go into football. There's more money to be had if you make to the pro level, and, even if you don't, at least you get a college scholarship out of the deal.

This is the same idea promoted in boxing about why the United States doesn't dominate the heavy weights anymore recycled for MMA. The problem is that it assumes that the athletic skills/abilities required in boxing/mma are identical to the those needed for football which has to be proved.

I'm just talking about the basic athletic skills: size, speed, quickness, balance, and strength.
I don't really care enough to do a study on the subject, but, I'm pretty sure that if you took all of this year's high school seniors who got linebacker scholarships and put them in an MMA program, some of them would eventually become stars.

very true, i don't think mma is for everyone, but at least everyone can pretend to be a tough guy with there affliction t-shirts, even 150 lb turds
