I've seen the last two photos NUMEROUS times over, oh I don't know, the last 5-8 years I've been on the net!!!!
Sorry Mike, you're busted!!! (But that gator IS truly huge...must be that Florida water eh?)
-
WOW!
Is that a deer in his mouth in the water pics???
Looks a little smaller in the water pics, must be because of the distance....
-
the deer pics are very old, and the gator there looks to be hardly pushing 10 feet.
the first pic looks cool but no way to determine scale
-
Mike, post the article.

The alligator was found ... near a house ,
Game Wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he wouldn't cooperate.
Jayne and Don Hobkirk could hear the bellowing in the night. Their neighbors had been telling them
that they had seen a mammoth alligar in the Lake that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as being exaggerations.
"I didn't believe it," Don Hobkirk said.
Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated.
Florida Game and Parks game wardens had to shoot the beast...
Joe Goff, 6' 5" tall, a game warden with the Florida Game and Parks Commission, walks past the 23-foot, one inch alligator that he shot and killed in the back yard of Jayne & Don Hobkirk...

After "googling"and reading all i could find my take is: Gator on crane is most likely a "fake" picture
gator in water/deer in mouth/pics taken by helicopter obviously very real, channel 6 newsgator again obviously real ..............so these giant monsters do exist (a throwback to the dinosaur days that somehow survived and adapted)
pretty cool!

Gators/crocodiles are reptilians and probably branched of from the marine Mesosuchia druing the Jurassic-creteacious transition. They're basically living fossils, practically unchanged for more than a 100 million years. The fact that crocs as reptiles are cold blooded and can remain dormant for long periods of time probably saved their hides during the cataclysmic meteor impact 64 milion years ago.
trivia: the biggest fossil croc found is Deinosuchus aka Phobosuchus and was supposedly 45 feet long with a skull that measered 6-7 feet.

who much could it bench and squat?
-
Pffft. I thought this was a Burt Reynolds' moonshining thread. ::)

who much could it bench and squat?
a fair question! close to 2000 lbs bench is a guestimate, make that 2800 with a 4 ply bench suit. fossil records of Eusuchi benchsuits are as of yet unknown though...

Mike, i am telling you, no gators over 15-17 ft and that would be a huge gator. 12 ft and 600 pounds, yes. 21 ft gator, no.

Why are they hurting the poor innocent gator? :'(
-
Game Wardens were forced to shoot the alligator
They should have tazed it.

Oh, disregard. I thought this was a thread about fallen skateboarder Mark 'GATOR' Rogowlski from the Vision Street Wear days.

Indeed.
"Let's go live next to a gator-infested stream!"
"OMG! Gator! Who'da thunk it! Kill it!"

Holy Crap! Here in Dallas they caught a crocdile like that. Rare site in these parts. I think it was from a zoo.

Come on Mike, you've been on these boards much longer than I have been. Maybe your memory is not that of mine; but I've seen this numerous times!
Not to say that the photos are impressive, that gator is not something that I would want to see even if it were in a zoo.
On a side note, I was in New Orleans in '95. My group and I were walking the swamps they have there. We were crossing this bridge and decided to "post up," and there was some people there that were just relaxing. One guy was throwing bread at a gator in the water, RIGHT NEXT TO A SIGN THAT SAID DO NOT FEED GATORS!!! A few times the bread hit the gator, literally, between the eyes. The gator was just eyeballing the guy....I have no idea exactly how big the gator was since I could only see his head and the rest of his body was hidden in the water. I would say it was around 6-7" but purely estimate of course.
I was just waiting for that thing to come out of the water and make a white meat sandwich of the guy...but it didn't happen. Oh, and they were also playing a radio with rock music REALLY loud right next to the water. Which the sign also said not to do! :-X
-
if I ever see a gator like that I'm gonna swing over it on a vine.

exactly, record alligator was around 19 ft, and that was back in the day. this 'one' is like you said, 12 ft tops, still a big gator though.
-
Fuck that. I need to up my postcount.
The caption should read, "I went to a Steelers game, ate their entire consessions stand, and all I got was this crummy tee shirt"!
