hey guys..what do you think about late night training post workout nutrition....should i go with a slow carb post workout since its night time, as opposed to a simple carb..? or maybe just load up on protein and some healthy fats and dont worry about refilling glycogen until the morning...possibly getting some glycogen restoration by over eating on protein and letting glucoegensis pour some sugar on me?

Well you always talk as if you were a guru so how about you answer that for us?

Good point.
On a serious note though. How late are you talking? I don't like training much after 9:00PM (makes it really hard to sleep). When I train late (i.e. finish after 9:00PM). I usually have a plain old whey protein shake with some healthy fats & fiber in it.

i did a whey protein shake with some thinfat..thin an egg white/veggie mix.. now im getting ready to go to sleep and am having a chicken breats and some broccoli. ...ill just load up my glycogen tomorrow morning after cardio.

Normally I'd go for fast carbs and whey immediately after training and full meal or somehing slower an hour later. Are you training this late at night that you can't do that?
How do you go to sleep immediately after training, I'd be too psyched up.

.
Yeah no shit.
And for a short answer the 90minute post training window is what it is. COnsume protein and carbs regardless of when you train, unless you're trying to get ripped in a short period of time.

Yup. Time of training is irrelevant when it comes to your PWO nutrition. You want to get your muscles as much nutrients as quickly as possible after training, no matter what time of day or night it is.

I agree with EMMORTAL and METHYL MIKE (love that name!). Carbs and proteins should be consumed at all meals. You would do well to make your post-workout meal liquid (to speed absorption) and to help replenish the nutrients lost during the workout and to support the damaged tissues affected during training. The best choice is Whey Isolate & Waxy Maize and some free form BCAAs if you can afford them.
You would then follow within 2.5 hours with a slower releasing carb and protein meal so that you're continuing to replenish glycogen while you sleep as glycogen is manufactured by your liver and stored in your liver and muscle cells 24 hours a day not just when you choose to feed on carbs! The trouble is, you can only manufacturer so much glycogen at one moment in time which is why eating frequently throughout the day is more effective at replenishing glycogen stores than eating large meals less often. For a slower releasing protein, stay clear of whey and stick to meats, casein or egg proteins.
If you have trouble sleeping at night, take L-Tryptophan (it's legal now). The purest form is called LT1 which is under exclusive license to Phonenix Labs which is a manufacturing lab based in New York that makes many of your favorite supplements. Interestingly, they also own the Great Earth chain of health-food stores. Some of the brands of supplements they own themselves are Cytodyne (yes, Xenadrine), Pinnacle and Kemistry. Two amazing sleep products they sell are "Blue ZZZs" sold under the Pinnacle brand, and Xenadrine Sleep. Take a serving of either (both are just as good as each other) and in one hour you will be completely out!

yep
take the carbs and protein post workout. IF you just don't wanna, skip the workout this late altogether cause it's a waste without the post workout shake IMO

I train late also, slug a shake and hit the hay. Usually the PWO shake is as follows: 30 g milk isolate/120 g glucose polymers/~5 g fructose (a sweetener). If anything I feel much more refreshed when I wake up the next day as opposed to restricting carbo's and upping the protein in the shake. As long as I avoid stimulants prior to training, sleep comes pretty quickly.

I'm a late trainer too, so when I'm cutting, I have a post-workout shake that consists of 1 1/2 scoops of whey protein mixed with about 12 ounces of low-fat milk.

thats good..i like non fat milk around the workout too. i like to incorporate as much natural nutrients as i can. you might try to get some mct oil or fish oil in there too though. you dont want to go to sleep on zero fats after a workut... your test will be far from optimal.
